Watched some of Sly's new boxing show ' contender" last night. They had a segment with the boxers sitting aroung the table talking about which Stallone pictures they liked best... of course Rocky, 1st Blood and then.. what.. they start talking about Over the Top. I guess boxers can relate to fellow athletes! One of the boxers talked about armwrestling a guy once and how stout he was. Then Sly tells them about an armwrestler drinking motor oil and eating cigars. Guess we all know who that is.

I saw the rerun lastnight on CNBC and thought it was a good show loved the underdog taking on the guy 21-0 when everyone wanted to take out the smaller guy first.
I was hopeing sly would have said a couple of names that would have been cool.

The Contender is a GREAT show! The first episode was like watching a mini-Rocky movie with real-life drama and emotion.
Check it out! You might be able to catch a rerun of the first show on CNBC. Episode 2 is on Thursday at 10 pm, then the show moves to its regular time on Sunday at 8 pm.

Amedeo, Boy, now I really feel old! Yes, it's Bruce Way I started to get involved in the sport in 1994...I began to recognize names right away, like Dave Patton, Cobra Rhodes, Allen Fisher, Cleve Dean etc.... Where is Bruce Way from, and when did he retire Thanks Mr. Phipps

Bruce is from CA. He spent most of his time armwrestling locally. The first time I saw him was at a NAWA National championship in San Diego in 1982. He had quite an act at that time... so it's not like he came up with this just for the movie.
His first match up... he opened up a can of motor oil.. drank some down.. then armwrestled.
second time up... he's smoking a cigar... then chomps.. it up and swallows it down.
Everyone was trying to figure out if he was crazy. By the time I armwrestled him... I was sure he was crazy.. and didn't want to spend any extra time on the table to see what his next show was going to be.
Took him down quickly and moved away from the table as quickly as possible... I didn't know if he would explode or what.
Got to know Bruce over the years and I found out he is really a nice guy, I just wasn't too sure at first.. of course that was part of his M.O. he wanted you to be thinking more about him and what he might do than your armwrestling and your first move or start.
