I have been asked by someone (identity not yet need to be know) to pose this question.
This person is directly related to Fox/Vegas tournament coming up and there is a really good chance that something larger than you can imagine is on the horizon.
That being said, they want to know what the perfect tournament would be.
What kind of bracketing?
What kind of money? (seriously)
What kind of classes?
Anything you can think of, mention it here.
What are some of your thoughts on the perfect tournament that would get all of you to come out?
Again, I must reiterate that this is not a joke, if the responses are good then the ideas could be used. And the person who will be reading these posts does have the power to make it happen. So take it seriously.
I am leaving for Canada for a few days so I won't be able to check this but please keep this thread around with some great ideas that can turn into "the next biggest tournament ever"
Thank you all for your time,
Gary Roberts ARM TV

The perfect dream tournament? That's easy. For someone to pick up the plane ticket, the hotel costs, and maybe even the entry fee/per arm. ;D Maybe for someone to pay the $15 in gas it costs everytime I want to drive to practice. Some of us would like to show the world what a great sport armwrestling is and the satisfaction it brings to both viewers and participants.... without going bankrupt in the process. Well, that's my 2 cents. ;D Cya at the next local tourney!

I think the dream tornourment would be a drug tested 1 especially were there is a substancially amount of gold beans available, not doing the drug test after the comp but 4 weeks b4,i know this may send stupid but we all know certain drugs can be out the system pretty quick especially test which is the best for strength anyway. id suggest that all entries for a comp of the Vegas style should be in 8 weeks prior to the tourney that then gives engough time for the correct people in charge of the event to maybe pick people at random.then the organizers if the person is from overseas could send the test to the wrestlers governing body then have the sample sent back with engough time to test it and tell the offender there out of there. Its ok if the money keeps growing but so will the steriods thats then a snowball effect otheres take um or they just stop going, less people there sponsors stop wanting it to, eventually were back to level 1. the guys that are most important at these comps are the 1s that turn up to all these tourneys and dont place in the money but everytime there is a head count there still there,in UK we call these Lawlers. and we cant afford to lose them.

Lawlers LOL
I agree with the Mighty One - we all know that the bigger the tourney, the bigger the prize money - the more visits to the 'chemist' some guys are willing to make!
Its very disheartning... although how you'd police drug tests weeks before an event would take even more wonga$$$... as im sure some governing bodies wouldn't be too srict on monitoring tests...
Andrew's point also would be nice, about the airfares etc - although I'm sure the number of entrants would have to be cut/managed - ie an invitational event.

;D Hey -- we are working on a Drug Free Bodybuilding Show here in Augusta -- that is a Pro Card Qualifier... and we are having the same issues with $$$$. So what we are doing is not only "batch" testing -- but we are also doing polygraph testing. I thought that it was silly -- but hey you fail -- your out -- then you get batch tested on top of that. competitor pays for the polygraph 35.00.
I want to see the women have classes. There are some that feel the women are not as Important -- but we are. the talent is there -- the desire to be the best is there -- and yes -- there is rivalries. Please don't forget the women!!!!

Dream tournament
classes well that would depend on amount of pullers attending.
I think everyone in a class should have to pull everyone in the class twice. Now wouldnt that be interesting , there could be a lot of ups and downs. Also test endurance some

Gary, A friend of mine does Bench Press competitions and the competitors are randomly tested year round. If anything other than a negative response comes back, they are out for two or three years. He normally competes in the fall and winter. Two summers ago, he was cutting his grass in the "Off Season" and someone came to his house, identified themselves and he gave a urine sample. Yes, he was clean, but there was no advanced notice or anything, and apparently this was common knowledge to all the competitors. That was the only time he was tested in 3 years of competition. If you fail at anytime, you should be banned for 2 to 3 years. Jim

1) Live stream on ArmTV 2) Novice and Pro classes seperated by 6-12 hours so you don't have to sit through 1 to compete in the other. 3) At least some attempt to accomodate families with children. 4) Tables in the center of the crowd ala "Harley Pull" 5) Video and projection screens so everybody can see the matches. 6) Please please please post the brackets so everybody can see them, not just the table ladies. 7) Start each weight class at a defined time and run it to at least the semifinals, so you don't have to sit around all day waiting to pull. 8) 3 refs. 1 only starts the match the other 2 stationed off opposing corners watching equally for elbow fouls. The near ref calls the match. 9) Eliminate the ridiculous, asinine, foolish, stupid, cry baby, illogical rule that the opponent gets the foul if your elbow comes off the back of the pad. 10) 3rd and 4th place get equal money. In a significant amount of double elimination tournaments 3rd and 4th place do not ever compete against each other. Therefore the prizes should be equal or there should be a pull off. 11) Team event. Each team enters with a $200.00 fee, winner take all. Each team has as many competitiors as they wish, total team weight is 777 pounds or less. Compete 'King of the Table', no rest between matches. 1st team to 21 points wins the round. Pulling order is decided ahead of time and can not be altered. 12) Everybody is allowed to chose their own shirt. If the competitiors must wear a sponsors shirt, let them pick their own style/color like on "Worlds Strongest Man" 13) I don't care about drugs, I don't think many others do eithier. 14) Warmup tables accessible the whole tournament.

What I think should be done is try to find two high profile celebrities to have a match best two out of three to help bring in the public. Then find the best pullers on the planet and bring them to the tournament to train the celebrities for a few weeks. Make it a real match real money that way it does not look fake.
I would like to see a 154,171(176),209,open right and left classes also a couple of the women's most competitive classes.
As for prizes lets look at it 10 classes. $5,000.00 for first place. I think that would make most pullers want to attend.
As far as the testing who cares. We would need the best to show up to pull in the numbers.
Have an entry fee that is reasonable around $100.00
I know the numbers do not match up but if someone had the time and connections they could get the sponsors and help that would be needed to make something like this happen.
JUST MY 2 CENTS

Realistically for someone to put a tournament on like this they would want to make something back...obviously or why do it? So I don't think they would add novices, or pay for your travel and accomedations ( gets to expensive for the promoter, although some do it now....OOPS!!!!...LOL ). I will agree with Todd on ALMOST every point except #s 2, 11 and good old # 9...LOL.. But the others are very good points. I would say the least classes the better ( go ahead and complain ), cuts on time and the BEST will show , and more exciting. Rather see John pull Voevoda, then Joe Smoo against John Doe. With proper sponsorship, NO entry fees!
REMEMBER we need to get the sport to the next level...

The most popular competitors in the world in each class. The match ups everyone wants to see…(and would pay via backing with their own money). Set in stone who these gladiators will be months in advance. Allow plenty of time to prepare and for the promoters to hype the match ups. Allow fans of these armwrestlers to have a stake in the belief of their guy or girl. Online cash commitments to determine an 8 man field…. ? Might work. To do this, run the event in Vegas and organize wagering. The most exciting event ever was probably the talked about money match between Virgil and Cleve. With a horse racing format the money bet could escalate to large amounts creating a new niche in Casinos sponsoring future armwrestling events. Horse betting, which allows everyone to have a percentage of the prize pool of the other competitors based on their own money wagered on the winner. This would create realistic odds. And create new excitement for the fans or just simply the hardcore gambler. You can’t imagine the feeling going to Travis’s tournament backing someone you believe in against formidable competition. Yes, this is more exciting then participation. How many guys in the world have a guy that’s never been beat? And a friend or friends who have money to back up their belief? It would be different ….might work? Come vegas who is willing to bet on Travis…who on Matt…If big money is bet on these 2 who will be willing to bet on a small amount on a sleeper to take the pool of money bet on these two favorites? Come ON now Gary you are joking aren't you.....!!!! ;D
