Someone educate me...
As you know, I am relatively new to this sport considering the history of some of you.
I have a few questions...
Since the internet craze...Has their been this much talk about a tournament before...this much hype?
I don't think I could get any more excited. So I was wondering if this has happened before. I am sure there was this much hype and speculation for Over the Top but the internet wasn't around back then...
so it would have been hard to talk about match ups before hand back then.
So ? one - what did you guys do to talk and speculate before the internet?
And Two- Has there been this much talk for any other tournament? (and I don't mean that in a negative way..I fully believe Vegas will live up to the expectations)
And Three- How does this tournament compare to a Worlds?
And has their been this much hype or expectations for a Worlds? (I didn't know enough to notice in Ottawa...and I don't recall much talk about South Africa)
I would appreciate any and all answers.
Gary Roberts ARM TV
For instance..back in the televised Petaluma days there must have been hype and speculations every year but without the internet there would be no way to voice an opinion or hype something up.

Life before the invention of the internet was a cold and dreary existence. We gathered around fires and discussed great armwrestling legends of the past. Ours was a true and ancient sport practiced in the caves and kept alive through the fierce hunt known as "tournaments".
Sometimes as the cold night wind would beat upon our cheeks, we would discuss the upcoming tournaments with other villages. We would set up super matches between the strongest individuals among two villages -with several of our flock as the prize to the winner.
Our great leaders were men of worthy top rolls, and fearsome hooks. The elders of the village would argue in need of a "masters" class, while the intelligent would argue for a left handed class. The need to record these events was undertaken by a man called "cave.tv", who fervently kept track of the great matches of the past.
The outspoken among us were fervent in their religious beliefs and felt it necessary to taunt and torment us with daily scripture readings for our own sake. These would often erupt into fierce dialogues about many things related to life and many other "off-topic" issues.
Life before the internet was difficult, but we managed as a community of bretheren and sisters to keep the practice alive.
Today we no longer gather around fires, -Instead we gather around keyboards to discuss our ancient sport. Our outspoken ones have been relocated to an off-topic forum, and the participants continues to grow with each passing moon. This is the story of our ancient sport.

Steve How old are you ;D If you lived somewhere in the past, even at a young age you would be the Old wiseman that people visit in the hills. I think Trash talking only carried from tournament to tournament, and more personal between rivals years ago. And of course the telephone was used Im sure but probably indirect messages and some twisted truths
