I have started this as a new thread as I didn't want to come into a thread that had turned into complaining and bickering.
Gary Roberts is to be commended. This is a man that wasn't armwrestling, promoting, officiating, or even involved in our sport that obviously went, saw, and fell in love as we all have done at one time or another. He is witty, personable, and extremely enjoyable to be around. His energy - what can I say - the man wears me out just watching him!
For those that may not know, we run 3 tables non-stop at our National events. And I do mean non-stop! No breaks, no down time on a single table at any time during the entire two days. Gary kept up with us, literally running from one table to another in order to film the action. At one point I even suggested to him that he needed to buy a pair of skates!
Frank and I were truly amazed when he interviewed Cleve and we were told shortly thereafter the interview was already up on the net. Now I confess, we are not experienced in the area of video coding and/or streaming (those are terms we hadn't even heard until this past weekend) but we knew it wasn't something that was accomplished within a few minutes.
Then we found out Gary stayed up ALL night Friday just to get the Masters and Left Hand competition up and running. It takes me almost 2 days to just feel human again after a National event and almost that long to find the energy to get the results up and I haven't been up all night or running from table to table for 2 days either. We were truly impressed!
Gary, Frank and I thoroughly enjoyed working with you this past weekend. Maybe one day we'll get lucky, high speed internet will come to the mountains and we'll finally get to see your work. Until then we have to rely on the information from others that are lucky enough to see. Gary you are a tremendous asset to our sport and we sincerely thank you for what you do. We thank you for coming to our Nationals and look forward to next year (since you did threaten to come whether we said yes or not ) You are a genuine pleasure and a much needed breath of fresh air in this sport that we love!
