It rests with the CO here as well. Chris, you guys are a different kind of community in which PT is definately part of your job.
PT is part of the Navy and we here are definately a part of that, but, our CO's focus here is getting pilots qualified to drop warheads on foreheads (we hear that everytime we have quarters)....and we are always in some kind of a scramble to ensure that happens. PRI 1 for us, as enlisted, in aviation, is to make those jets fly. period.
WE PUT IN A TON OF HOURS to maintain and keep these jets flying. That is our CO's Primary concern, every month, all year long.
That is the grueling part of my job....its SUPER FAST PACED, they want answers NOW, they want jets to fly NOW, and WE do not go home until those goals have been reached. BOTTOM LINE: WE DO WORK..........thats the Navy that i'm a part of. anything else is secondary.

Aaron, Not all my Commands were dive oriented. I was nuclear power also. Trust me, I know what you describe. I've kept a 25 yr old 637 Submarine on deployment for 8 months, during UNITAS. PT wasn't part of our job per se, but if it is a commitment of the Skippers, it'll be in the POD regardless of what community you're in. Everybody is 'busier' than everybody else. I agree. LOL, if you're insinuating that because we dove the world over, and pt'd, we didn't do work....Welllllllllllllll, I got news for you. You sound like your community is the only one like you describe above. Nope. I guess I'd have to say, come out of your rate shell, and meet the rest of the Navy 'Crew'!

Anthony,
I was in a Chemical unit that was rapid deployment in Germany 84-86 and then a Infantry Brigade at Ft Benning, GA from 86-89. Then an island in the middle of the Pacific (not Hawaii) Then 2.5 years @ NTC. We had PT 5 days a week but it was Unit 3 times and Section 2 times. I was attached to the 3/75 Ranger Battalion and 10th Mountain Div, so I do know what you are talking about. I live outside an Airforce and Navy Base and I can say the Physical standards are very different.

That makes sense. I seen ''at least'' 3x's a week and it didn't seem to add up. I was thinking I got shafted and put into a $hitty unit and wanted to know where "Graceland" was in the Army ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Chris........JEEZ man, I know we had some issues earlier in the post, but i'm over it.
I'm not now and was not attacking your rate or insinuating in your 20+ year career you did nothing but PT and did not work. I was just describing the reasons why I think we don't PT.....as a community. I didn't say we work ALOT with the intent, that I believe you or anyone else didn't. I know thats not the case, again, I was just stating the reasons why I think it doesn't happen within my present rate. And by present rate....I mean, I was prior ships company (ABE) and laterally converted to (AM).
So, I'm not stuck in my rate shell, just explaining the one i'm a part of.
H3LL man, I would love to be a part of the Special Warfare community as you were, seriously, I am somewhat burnt on airplanes. My neighbor is SWCC and I would love to do his job, he was a prior airdale such as myself and he travels the world in fast boats with SEALs and fires freakin cannons from those d*mn things. SWEET.

I have a Marine recruiter all over my ass called me a putz cause I wasn't joining with him right now wtf is a putz?

Just reread your post above, and I think you'll understand how one could think what I did.....I've bolded what caught my eye. Another tidbit, when on an afloat Command, divers have a division, everyone not assigned ( and it rotates) works within their rate.

Hey Johnny you might consider the Air Force i was Active duty for 4 years. i always thought Pararescue would be cool your basically a bad A$$ EMT. I do Non destructive testing fulltime in the Air National Guard. We basically test material such as aircraft parts for internal cracks. We use Radiography, Ultrasonics, Eddy Current, Fluorescent pentrant to test certain metals. Its pretty neat stuff, the school is in Pensacol, Fl for 10 weeks. I have heard that there is a shortage of NDI technicians in the civillian sector also. Anyway hope that helps...Good luck.
