Here in the Northeast we usually run 3 classes for kids 4/6yrs, 7/9yrs, 10/12years old plus teens. At some of our events we get as many as 20 kids not counting teens. Hope this helps.

Jean, hope your grandson has a full recovery!!
Yes Corey Team Cheyenne is great when it comes to training kids--don't worry I am putting you to work very soon!
Here in Colorado we run about 6 kids and teens classes and then divide them boy/girl, I am also signing a contract with the Boys and Girls Club out here to start running day camps, but I am really wanting to pick everyone's brain about what brings new kids into the sport.
Bill it sounds like you really have a good following up there, that's great. Kids are the key to our future and I really think that is the way the sport needs go.
Russ and I have 3 kids of our own 13, 8, 5 and they all pull with us but I know how they got into the sport!! I really want to figure out how to target kids who's parents don't pull and get them into the sport, heck you get the kids and you are bound to get the parents!!

Hi Brandy, We've been running kids here in Idaho for about 9 years now. We hold 10 divisions for the kids and 6 for the teens. (That's 48 trophies plus participation awards!) On the average, we have 75-90 participate. If you're interested in our break downs or anything like that, please feel free to pm me... we've tried a few different things and pretty much found what works now. I don't think we would run any more events without the kids simply because it's a "family thing" out here and watching the kids compete is usually the best thing about the tournaments. None of them go home empty handed, either. So... no tears... They all get tournament shirts with their entry fee as well. The Boys and Girls clubs is a great idea! Good for you for getting in there! Let me know how it goes! Elaine Oh, one more thing... sometimes we run a "Strong Arm Challenge" in the different grades in the schools... class by class, girls vs. girls, boys vs. boys... this is a great way to get the kids involved who's parents don't armwrestle! We've had a lot of recruits from that.
