I found this on the A A A site and was curious if anyone could help me with any information at all.
Mike Mignogna
October 24th, Mike underwent surgery to repair the subscapulus tendon of the rotator cuff and ruptured long head bicep tendon of the right arm and right shoulder. The rotator tendon was torn completely off the humerus bone but was succesfully re attached with anchors to the humerus bone. Since the bicep injury was 2yrs. old, part of the tendon had re attached itself to the acrom bone and front deltoid muscle, it had to be cut away and couldn't be re attached. Mike is in therapy and the prognosis at this time is that his competition days are over.
On Tuesday I underwent a similar surgery where the long head bicep tendon had to be pulled up my arm, under my pectoral muscle and re attached to the bone, using an anchor and a screw. The doctor was originally concerned with my rotator, but after an M.R.I. and Orthoscopy, he was sure that he did not have to repair it, as it would repair itself for the most part during recovery of the bicep. The doctor originally told me after 4 months of physical therapy and rest, that I would be able to return to the sport. Now after meeting with him yesterday, he is telling me that he is not so sure. I am lost because in the same breath he tells me that the surgery went better than expected. So like I said, I am lost. If anyone that knows Mike Mignogna or someone who has had a similar surgery, please respond with some helpful insight.
Thank you,
Peter Milano

OH, Pete... I am so sorry to hear about your surgery! When did you injure yourself? I certainly hope that you can hear some good news from the doctor and especially that your armwrestling days are not over! That would be awful! I cannot begin to know what you feel like right now, but only what I'm feeling about my (obviously insignificant) injury and that I cannot do what I could 3 weeks ago! It's upsetting to miss out on one event, let alone what you may be looking at. I sure am sorry. Good luck with the healing process! Elaine Someone out here should know Mike or at least how to get in touch with him... I want to think that MIke is from PA...

Pete,
I have emailed you Mike Mignogna's phone number. It's the last number I have for him so hopefully it's correct. If not, contact Jim Bryan. Mike lives in New Jersey and Jim will definitely know a new number if the one I have is no good.
Wish you a speedy and full recovery.

Hey Pete, we talked on the phone about your injury and surgery, but I just wanted to say again 'best of luck' with your recovery. I like to give you a lot of S*&t on this board, but that is all in fun, you know that.

Under all of that hate I know you have a lot of love for this sport, it will be a rough year but you will come out of it better than when you left.

hey Pete, I just found out about your surgery last night, i'm sorry i didn't know it was that bad, don't give up hope, doctors can be conservative sometimes and the human body is amazing , if you want to go for second opinion try my ortho his name is Dr. Thomas Moran, i love him and he is supportive of my wrestling but will be honest with you too he has offices in milford and hamden, 882-3373. really listen to your physical therapist. Best of Luck and speedy recovery, Who would abuse me quite like you cindy

Pete,
Ron Bath and Eric Wolfel had biceps reattached after the World Championships in Japan (1999) and they have been able to return to their former World Class form. I do know that it took a lot of work and Ron had a second surgery because of a pinched nerve. They may have some info for you.
Best of luck with your recovery!

I would like to thank everyone for the heartfelt wishes. Believe me, it is going to be a tough year, but I will not let the doctors win. If anyone else has anymore info, it is still greatly appreciated. I have spoken to a few people already and I am very optimistic about some of the things I have heard so far. Please keep the info coming and I will resume my job of "Hater" as soon as it gets easier to type.
Thanks again and keep it coming!!!!
