Tomasz, I'd definitely add Maurice Baker, Al Turner, Steve Stanaway and Roy Ridgely. Was Johnny Walker on your list? If not, he should be included, too. JMHO. Jimmyvan

Of course the sport was much smaller in the early days, but Duane "Tiny" Benedix was the super heavyeight Petaluma World Wristwrestling Champion three times during the '60s, and Jim Dolcini won the title four times in the early '70s.

I would also include Earl Wilson (CAN). He's won 21 national titles and has won 18 medals at the WAF Worlds (11 gold, 5 silver, 2 bronze).

As for women, the two most obvious choices from North America are Dot Jones and Barb Schlegel (Zalepa).

Of the names listed in red, I agree that all could be part of a hall of fame, but there is no question at all that Dave Patton, Johnny Walker, and Cleve Dean deserve to be included. These three men were clearly the best in their respective classes for many years.

Jimmyvan i see Walker and Turner on the list. IMO majority of the athletes who are on that list deserves to be there. there are a lot of multiple times WAF winners such as Dmitry from Ukraine who for sure has more than 5 WAF titles and all of them in senior division.he should be added as well. there are about 20 Russian armwrestlers, who are not on this list, but have better record than some of the pullers who are listed here.some of them are; 4 times WAF champion Shamil Karajaev Bolataev Vladimir multiple times World and European Champion Gioev Mairbek multiple times World and European Champion Khuadonov Artur multiple times World and European Champion Khugaev Aslanbek multiple times World and European Champion Kokoev Ruslan multiple times World and European Champion Skodtaev Anatoly multiple times World and European Champion Tamaev Totraz multiple times World and European Champion Garrido Laso and Ivan Portela from Spain also has better records than some of the names on the list.they have won multiple times WAF championships (none in junior-disabled or masters). where is 3 times WAF champion Haydar Gildil who has wins over Vephkia (4 times),Karajaev,Hubulov,Gashevski,Andreas,Pascal and many others? where is Niyazi Kurt who has 2 times WAF and 2 times European titles and has wins over Bill Sinks, Zoloev Kazbek,Kote, Semerenko, Maskevich,Denis Dubreuil and many others. but i agree with the majority of that list.

btw,a Greatest Armwrestler should be some one who (at least in some of his career) was-is considered to be the best in the World in his weight category.or at least almost as good as the best one in his category.for example Patton-Fisher competetions or Brzenk-Bath competetions or John Brzenk-Bill Brzenk or Goodrich-Dean or Alan-Javahadze or Gashevski-Vephkia-Karajaev-Haydar-Tschakilov or Taras-Germanus or John-Travis-Pushkar-Ferit or Fadzinov-Semerenko etc.

Do you feel titles in non-open classes (i.e. masters) should be excluded?

i do not know who is the fastest guy in the world in masters class,do you know who he is?
i do not know who is the strongest olympic weight lifter in the world in masters class,do you know who he is?
in wrestling? there can be more examples.my point is that if the question is the greatest then it can not be divided to ages as how it is in the olympic games.
weight class should be the only division as its in every strength sport. but if you are the greatest then you should prove this against anyone at your size, not only at your age.so in short juniors, disabled and masters can not be considered same as open class.
i have never seen any sport that its masters class athletes are compared with its open class athletes in same category.

In my opinion a list called "the greatest armwrestlers in history" should be much shorter and with higher standards. I totally agree with you Florian, but I also imagine that would be difficult to decide who to include in and who not... maybe it's not even so important to make such list, I don't see the sense of a big list all of fame open weight, too long and complicate in my opinion even with higher standards... Really better choice would be to divide it in weight classes as Engin well did in his rankings Anyway higher standards are necessary in every case, because everyone claim the legends of his own country and would want to include them... For example I could quote Emanuele Bruni and Riccardo Niccolini from Italy, Bruni World Champion 1992 and European Champion 1996 both in 110 kg class and Niccolini 4 times 2nd at Worlds (1986-88-89-1990) and finally World Champ in 1991 But are they as great as many other names in the list?? No. With lower standars there would be TOO MANY NAMES to include.
