Hey I was just wondering about this upcoming Maine tourney. The flier says that you have to be 21 or have a parent present. I planned on having a few friends come with me that are not 21, but they won't be competing. They will be with my parents who are going to come also.......... so are my under 21 friends still eligible to come and watch even though their parents won't be present? thanx ;D

Hey Steven I'm almost positive that the 21 and older thing has to purtain to competitors... I've run a tournament and for insurance purposes the bars or restuarants are obligated to cover their a s s e s with that clause...

Actually, you need to be 21 to get in the door. Today, I will be asking if those under 21 can get in under the supervision of another adult.
The Maine Laws are to blame...

Hey Kurt,
So does that mean you'll never have kids' classes at any of your tournaments??? Is it because it's in a bar setting?? Would the rules still apply if you could get a family restuarant/bar to hold the tournament??? Just wondering???

You have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to get into the venue if you are under 21, regardless if you are competing or not. We ARE having the kids/teens classes, but again, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian while they are in this establishment. They need a parent signature anyway to compete if they are under 18. I realize that this is pain in the ass, but that is the law in Maine. This has been the case since I started the Maine States back in 2001. It is an issue that comes up every year, unfortunately.

Don't think of it as an issue.. It's just that the more this tournament grows the more people are going to ask... Have to take it as a compliment that so many people want to bring other non-pullers to the tournament
