This is a rather crude, although absolutely true, statement given to me as advice when I was in the Navy:
"A person is remembered for their failures, not their successes. A man can be the world's greatest bridge-builder. He has built fantastic bridges all over the world. But you suck one d**k and they don't call you the 'bridge builder' anymore."
Master Chief Ciciora
(advice given to a young power plant operator (me) after I paralleled generators out of phase and knocked out all power to the ship while running full speed)

Sadly, he is correct. In my experience, the School of Master Chief Ciciora has been a lesson in cruel truth and the best education in life I ever got.
His other piece of advice:
"Wilson, here's how the world works. You can perform miracles every day, but in this thankless world that is considered to be your job. You can turn water into wine on Monday. On Tuesday you can heal the lepers. On Wednesday your boss will say "but today you f***ed up. You are now officially a piece of s**t." Life is not about effort. Life is about results."
His advice has proven true many more times than it has been wrong.
His over-riding theme was "You are only as good as your last f**k up."

John...you must have been tru hard times too and "hard" is somehow relative in this life as you know. But i think that could be 1 main reason, why you are the way you are and that's someone that is authentic & ingenious on the first view and authentic & ingenious on the second view again. And this is something that is not self-evidently from what i saw & learned in my life so far. I say nothing new when i say that you are blessed my Aw-friend and i don´t need any written golden results to see & cherish that. this below here came again to my mind from a "Master of Peace" as i was reading those quotes above: "If everything is smooth sailing right from the beginning, we cannot become people of substance and character. By surmounting paining setbacks and obstacles, we can create a brilliant history of triumph that will shine forever. That is what makes life so exciting and enjoyable. In any field of endeavour, those who overcome hardships and grow as human beings are advancing towards success and victory in life."

A.K.
Thank you. You are too kind. As far as hard times go, I thought I had it rough when I was a kid. When I got older and traveled around the world I found out that my life had been pure luxury. I promised myself that when I got back to the US, if I heard anyone tell me how bad they had it I would punch them square in the mouth.
