Runnin' from the cold up in New England I was born to be a fiddler in an old time string band My baby plays the guitar, I pick the banjo now Oh north country winters keep-a gettin' me low An'I lost my money playin' poker so i had to up and leave But i ain't turning back To live that old life no more I didn't know the name of the song, but I like it a lot. I have been really getting into Old Crow Medicine Show lately. I never heard them before I started listening to Pandora radio. Now Tommy's got me onto Slacker Radio and it is better, but you don't get quite the oddball variety you get with Pandora.

Waylon Jennings, Low down freedom God, I love that music Yep. Another example of Waylon doing a Billy Joe Shaver tune. Jacob, you really need to get the Old Five And Dimers album. Hearing those songs by the guy who wrote them really adds another layer to the music. I'll never forget the first time I heard Kristofferson sing Me And Bobby McGee. I didn't even know he wrote it at the time. I had heard the Janis Joplin version a gazillion times and was never impressed by the song. When I heard Kris do it I realized that Janis pretty well butchered it. There's a really good song hidden under her boozed up slobbering rendition of it. Who knew?

I have been unfaithful I've been unwise Restless from the cradle Now I realize
It's so hard to see a rainbow Through glasses dark as these Maybe I'll be able From now on, on my knees
Oh... I am weak Oh Lord I know I am vane Take this weight from me Let my spirit be unchained

Though I have a like / dislike relationship with this artist, I think this is his best song:
Well in the town where I was raised, the clock ticks and the cattle grazed Time passed with amazing grace, Back where I come from
You can lie on a river bank, paint your name on a water tank or Miscount all the beers you drank, Back where I come from

I liked his stuff a lot in the beginning, but he scored a lot of radio points with schlocky pre-fab garbage and decided to ride that wave as far as it would take him. The worst part is that he can sing and he's a good artist when a little piece of musical integrity sneaks through. It's such a shame to see a guy with real talent fall into such a deep cavern of d.ouchebaggery that it blocks out the sunlight from what could have been a great legacy of music. Clint Black fell into that same hole when he decided he should throw away his career in an attempt to make his wife a country star. Hot, yep. Singer, nope. So he filled in the obvious talent gap she had by singing one crappy duet after another with her in hopes of getting her on the charts. In the process he earned himself a lifetime suppy of vagisil.

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me. There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me. The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall. You say it best when you say nothing at all.

Did you ever see a robin weep when leaves begin to die? That means he's lost the will to live.
