I always heard Cleve Dean had the biggest hands in the awing' world... may he RIP. I guess it's Denis or Richard now!? Do you mean Rich Lupkes? Rich's hand is not all that big. Mine is a little bigger. One guy on Team NJ, Luke Eldridge, has a hand a little bigger than mine. And I don't think either of us compare to Denis on pure thickness.

Denis' hand is thicker then yours ad Luke's...Even thicker then Cleve's...Just not as bigger, meaning longer.... I have practiced with Shawn and Luke for a very long time, and one of few that has pulledCleve and Denis. FOR ME, who has an avg hand, it's easier to grip up with a large hand. I do NOT like gripping up with small hand, for I have difficulty with small hands.

Bart Wood can tell you more, but there is a new guy training in Erie, and it was like gripping up with a baseball with fingers. Seriously. I would guesstimate his hand was 3-3.5" thick, and 5" wide. I have decent sized hands for my weight, and I couldn't even grab around his thumb they were that thick. That picture though is awesome Josh, looks like the biggest hand I've ever seen.

I know of several individuals (not arm wrestlers) with BIGGER hands and here's a link to one of them:
Jeff Dubay's hands are not as big as Andre's by any means!!!
There's another individual from the Ukraine with the largest hands ever but I can't think of his name at the moment. I'll post his picture when I get home from work today.
Love this thread!!!

Imo denis's are thicker than richards. But definitely not longer. Richards hand feels more like a brick. But overall size dabe's are bigger than all of them. Its somethin else

Here is the reason that his hands are so big:
Acromegaly is caused by high secretion of growth hormone (GH). This is usually caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland which is referred to as Pituitary Adenoma.
Pituitary gland is a pea shaped organ present in the region of brain. Pituitary gland secretes a hormone known as Growth Hormone (GH), which is needed for growth. In normal people, the GH secretion is higher till puberty and secretions reduce after that. But sometimes high secretion of GH continues after puberty, which results in Acromegaly.
A person with Acromegaly may develop headache, visual problems and thickening of fingers of hands and legs. There is enlargement of jaw, nose, lips and ears. Acromegaly is more common in middle aged adults.
Excess secretion of GH before puberty results in Gigantism. The affected person becomes tall due to increased length of the bones of the legs. However, height increases only till puberty as the length of bones does not increase after that. In people who have Acromegaly, secretion of GH increases for a few to several years after puberty.
Therefore, they may not grow in height after puberty. But they can develop thickening of fingers, and enlargement of jaw, heart or kidney.
Andre the giant had the problem because he had a pre puberty condition which caused his bone length to grow in addition to bone thickening.

@ Jeff,
Interesting. I thought acromegaly does affect everyone to some degree though. I've read that abuse of HGH does result in bloated intestines, widening/thickening of bones- conspicuous in the jaw for example, and some athletes develop a gap in their front teeth because of this, like Carl Lewis. He was said to this condition caused by the use of hormone.
Denis' voice also sounds like it's coming through a voice modulator, as with Andre. Not sur if the vocal cords are thickened as well, or the throat elongated or something, or if it's higher up. Had a good laugh when I showed Cyplenkov's hand to a farmer friend of mine and he said it looks like a baboon paw. ;D

My hands are 8.25 long from wrist to middle finger and 4 inches wide And 20 inches from elbow to middle finger I'm not sure if cm (metric) would be finer/more accurate, but just based on the ratio, yours is slightly closer to 1 (1.42, a bigger hand than average compared to your forearm). But it's so close it could really be down to human error. The measurements I've taken so far all surprized me that they lined up with the average of 1.44. Pardon me, I'm a scientist, I love measuring and testing. I think that we could probably throw out these correlations of ratios, unless we found significant outliers and Brzenk would probably be partly wrong elsewise, unless we need to really define and consider what a functional big hand is in armwrestling terms. Is there a "natural" armwrestling build at all? What gives a competitor a genetic edge? I would like to understand the biomechanics of the arm a bit better, but perhaps training > genetics to fuzz over the facts someday.
