I pen this letter after reading recent current events. I admire your enthusiasm, courage, as well as your innocence. First though we must recognize the difference between enlightened and entitled. By definition enlightened means "having or showing a rational, modern, and well-informed outlook." Entitled means "believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment." The significance is these two are commonly mixed up. Standing for something is great. Identifying problems and advocating for solutions is noble as well. Playing a victim card and advocating for selfish motives as if you are the only ones on earth who have negatively been impacted is especially dangerous. You can't strip one persons freedom to give you peace of mind. You can't no matter how loud you scream change America unless you are part of the special interest group itself. You have a voice and freedom of speech. But you won't change this nation unless you are the special interest group. Also it's important to recognize the threat you fear is mental illness, criminal thinking, selfishness, and carelessness. All of these monsters have misused something like a firearm or a pressure cooker to harm their victims. It isn't the weapon that's the root cause it's their disturbing behavior. Blame their actions not the tools they used for chaos. The person is at fault not the device. We need to deter this thinking and cripple peoples ability to act on these thoughts. This won't be achieved by restricting law abiding citizens. At the core of all these incidents lies a deranged mind who embraces criminal thinking and has no fear of repercussions. It is important you recognize this. Lastly I hope you keep your passion. I hope this life doesn't make you jaded or bitter. I hope the reality of the system doesn't crack you in the face and leave you in a state of shock. Continue to chase your dreams and don't accept no for an answer. Undertsand no road will bend to meet you and every accomplishment you make is because you had the drive to attain it. Nothing is owed to you go out and earn your keep. Life can be joyful and fullfilling but it comes at a price. The only person that owes you anything is yourself so don't let yourself down. I hope this read is of some value to you. Remember some of the best lessons in life are taught by error and experience. Respect your elders because they have been where you're at and managed to survive and gain insight.
