Has anyone heard of, or broke a set of these grippers from working out with them? I snapped my #1s showing a guy yesterday how to close it. It scared the poop out of my wife when it broke, as well as myself.

Hey Harold, several people told me, including Bill Ballinger himself, that they saw Bill break a #2 gripper when he closed the handles past each other, said it scared everyone there because the spring slivers were flying everywhere, even stuck in the ceiling. Bill said they weren't his and that the guy who owned them sent them back and they gave him a new set.

Thanks Mike,
I recieved an email back from Ironmind and they said they are only garanteed for a year...mine are about 3 years old. I am setting a new goal for myself. Instead of closing them I will try to break my 2s...then the 3s. Those are cool bragging rights. I wish I couldve seen Bill do that with the 2s... WOW!!!
Harold
p.s. I am still attempting the phone book. I think I'll do it by the end of next week.

Rob is a madman with the COC's that is for sure, at the WAF in Springfield after some grueling matches late in the event with Michael Todd he comes off the stage and John Ruggiero takes the #4 off the table where they are being sold and insists that Rob try and close it, Rob damn near does.
I had one of those store bought ones with the black ball in the “v” of it where you can adjust the tension, it exploded in my hand a piece of plastic cut my face if I had not of been wearing glasses others shards of plastic would of went in my eye and I suffered a pretty good gash in my pulling hand. I won’t train with the plastic ones at all, I have heard of the COC’s breaking before but I cannot imagine seeing it happen, Harold with that big old mit of yours probably not a piece of it left your hand when it went. ;D ;D ;D

Milo had an article about the grippers awhile back and said they can break from the stress of high reps. They recommended that if you can do 10 reps on a gripper it's time to move up to the next strength. That said, I do alot of reps on my # 1 and # 2's and have not seen a problem yet ;D Guess I should knock on wood

The Ironmind grippers (or any gripper for that matter) will absolutely break if put to the test. I have personally broken a Trainer, a #1 and 2 #2's. None of them broke with the death defying dramatic effects that Harold speaks of. They all snap just above the handle. No flying shards of doom to speak of. I will admit being startled a bit when the #2 let go at rep #46. Your best bet- get a #3. It won't break. I have a 1998 #3 that I've closed literally thousands of times and no problems yet. If you guys want to see some bad-dog grip monsters, check out cyberpump.com. Some of those guys are ridiculous.
P.S. SIMON!!!!!!!
