I don't post very much, but we really need your help on this one.
My cousin, Ron Baker, is a soldier that was severely wounded last week in Iraq. He and two others were in a Humvee that ran over a land mine. He is the only one that survived. They flew him to Germany where they reported to us that half of his face was hit and damaged and metal went through his arm. We also understand that half of his brain has glass (I believe) in it. All that we know thus far is that he is in critical condition and on life support.
My uncle and Ron's wife flew to Germany last night. They are supposed to arrive in Washington, D.C. with my cousin this morning. My aunt is currently having to stay at home because they could not fly her to her son. As soon as they find out Ron's condition in Washington will determine whether or not she will fly or have to drive. Her place of employment is not giving her very many days off with pay (I think two right now and maybe six more later). My uncle is not receiving any pay at all from his employer.
My cousin has a little girl that is about seven years of age. She sent Ron a Sponge Bob pillow to sleep on while he was in Iraq. He slept with it nightly. She told my aunt that doctors could fix her daddy right up, and that she did not care if he had a gold eye or even a blue one.
He was scheduled to come home in less than a month. He already had his stuff sent. He is actually a medic and we are not sure why he was in the infantry. The two other soldiers that were with him did not survive the blast.
Please pray for Ron and our family. I know that all things through Christ are possible. I also know that through prayer things are stronger. God can make the impossible possible and the bleakest the brightest. Please keep him and our family in your prayers.
God Bless,
Tonya Wood
