Okay, so I just got off the phone with Nick Cara and a guy named Larry Scofield or Sofield (from New Jersey or some such state) who insists that Alicia Keyes, Eminem and 50 Cent will be performing at a 2-day armwrestling event that will pay out thousands of $s just over two weeks from now.
Okay, let's examine this Nick Cara. He claims to be a man that used to escort Nikolai Volkoff to the ring. He claims his name is also Nikolai. Coincidentally, the song that Volkoff used to sing before wrestling was called "Cara Mia." HMMM. An alias
What a coinkydink?
Also, the link to this great website, gcwrestling.net doesn't exist. According to Mr. Cara the website is still being developed. Though take a look at his flyers. I have no virtually no experience with photoshop (other than some photo cropping from back in the newspaper days) and I could come up with better graphics for the flyer. But this is a man with so much money he is just throwing it around like rice at a wedding.
Now, this man Scofield or Sofield or whatever, insists that the national tournament will be a $100,000 giveaway including a brand new Hummer.
The weirdest part was that, when I called Mr. Cara, he referred me to Mr Scofield who just happened to be sitting next to him at the time.
Yep.
At 7:30 pm on a Friday night, the organizer and promoter of this tournament just happened to be sitting in the same room. Not too uncommon you say? Well when Rob Bigwood called him he encountered the same pitch.
And let's talk about this pitch. Larry tried to convince me to send a money order as soon as possible because they were going to close registration soon. I have never known of a tournament organizer or any business man for that matter, that would turn away $275 entree fees with so much time before a tournament.
When I told him I would register the day of the tournament he said that I might be able to, even though two minutes before he said they were closing registration soon.
He said they were closing registration because they couldn't have 1000 entries and I told him that there was no way he would get 1000 entries anyhow.
I told him I was worried that this guy would just take the money and not produce a tournament. He said if that was the case the guy had better leave the country.
I agreed.
This man Larry says he has competed for 35 years and I have yet to talk to anyone that has heard of him. I have also not seen one of the armwrestlers that he name-dropped, come on here and promote this tournament. In fact I have heard about all of this promotion and have neither seen nor heard anything other than what is on this board.
BTW do a search on these two guys and nothing comes up.
Pete Milano and I did a good deal of research and came up with barely anything, other than a small wrestling show or two in New York.
All of a sudden, ESPN and Fox are at his beck and call.
Because I live so close to NY, I am going to make the drive, but I am not counting any chickens. If this is on the level than it is the greatest thing ever to happen to this sport. I'm just not buying it. And I am not buying entry until I see a table, some familiar faces, tv cameras and one of those big fancy cardboard checks.
