John,
Sounds like a misunderstanding that can be explained.
Looking from the outside I can see that they would say " We will return your money." Which to them would mean " We will return the refundable part of the money." as they deal with this all the time it would seem common knowledge to them that a "Security deposit" is non-refundable. It keeps your spot on the Team and gives you the insentive to show up. Could they have been more clear? Maybe, I took a look at my forms and did not see where it clearly states that the Security deposit is non-refundable, but I knew when I sent in my $100 bucks I wasn't getting it back if I didn't show up for the tournament. I also understand that you had problems crossing the boarder. Which may have been a surprise to you, or not. We had an armwrestler on our team that had a "record" and told us before we tried to get into Canada for a tourament that he "may" not get across. He didn't, and was upset that he couldn't get to the tournament, but it wasn't anyones fault but his. It also left us a man short for our team.
I have known Leonard and Denise for many years and have never known them not to be completely honest.
John, I would call this a misunderstanding and leave it at that.
