Ian being a guy that has been as large as 316 pounds and as small as 225 pounds in the last 5 years I can honestly tell you its not an easy road....... I "bulked up" to 316 to play offensive line for my football team, but i should have stayed at 270 and just played defensive end.....But i realized i wasn't as mobile nor energetic as i was even at 270 so i decided to start leaning out, currently I am down to 250 pounds on a bad day, but my plan is to be around 230 by the start of summer..........its been a 5 year transformation and well I wish i could tell you that its an easy road but to shed basically 80 pounds in the last 3 years has not come easy, but I learned six small meals are more valuable than 4 large ones..........oh yeah and fast food forget about it..................best of luck man...... Sounds a lot like myself. My coaches made me bulk up, or better yet fatten up, to about 310 in high school. This is one of the biggest regrets of my life as I've had a hell of a time getting down to a healthy weight, right now I'm about 230 and hope to get down to 215. Besides from being terrible on my joints, I can barely run at 23 years old, the hardest part has been controlling my appetite. Since I gained all that weight by eating way too much ,I'm still to this day not able to get full unless I eat a ridiculous amount of food, which has caused a slew of other stuff. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I wish the best of luck to you both, you can do it. If you can and your son is interested, get him into pee wee wrestling. I went from my football weight of 310 to about 250 in 2-3 months just from wrestling practice. As far as competing in the tournament, if he wants to compete I'd let him. Again best of luck.

In all seriousness, I don't think you should have him pulling at all. It is OK to let kids at his age perform resistance exercises but not single joint exercises like the ones we use to get stronger at armwrestling. Everything I have read says to have young people get stronger you should do body control exercises and no more than a once-a-week full body workout with reps between 10 and 12 at a weight they can comfortably do 15 reps with, starting around age 8. For the sake of your son's development it would be best if he did not start overstraining his tendons and ligaments and putting isometric pressure on his muscles. Putting his arm up against pressures he cannot handle could stunt his development or even worse, hurt him. Now I have never put this into practice so understand I am no expert. But there is a great book called "Designing Resistance Programs" that delves a little deeper into this topic.

See thats where we differ, I have forced myself to become good at running, and at 250 i am able to run the standardized police pace of 12 minutes for the mile and a half run and can reach level 7 on the beep test we love to do...... Running is terrible and i hate every moment i spend doing it, but I am able to use that anger as motivation for my running, but best of luck to to Chris, anyone that is big or has been big knows how hard it is to get back to a healthy weight, but I'm ok with where i am now, being 6 foot 2 and 250 pounds with a body fat % of 16.........My goal is to be 230 and around 12 % body fat...... Chicks dig big men with a six pack set of abs.....and Arm-wrestlers....

Yeah, it's not that I don't like running, I actually love running. It's just the next couple days my knees, hips, and ankles kill me because of football, and I've already taken enough Advil for an entire lifetime, which is why I'd prefer not to take any now. For once I actually have a solid really healthy diet behind my working out, and I'm not stopping till I'm between 10-15 % body fat. It's just like Micheal Todd said, it's all about the diet. Your right chicks do dig the abs, but I've never had a chick dig me because of armwrestling, which sucks.

LOL..............Thats cause you gotta flash the guns to get their attention , and hype up arm-wrestling....seriously I tell them there is no better feeling in the world than gripping up and knowing your gonna crush a man (and his ego) and their like wow have u ever gotten hurt ? which I casually reply Superman doesn't get hurt.....
on a serious note tho I work my ass of in the gym doing two a days before and after class and work, and My diet is funedly insane, I live off of egg whites,Fish, chicken and steak, Rice and Salads...only junkfood i eat is these low fat pita puff things basically its mini flavored pita's.......and i drink 10-15 bottles of water a day on top of my 3-3 protein shakes...........I know its extreme but I know my metabolism and I know what keeps it flowing at the best rate.........
as for the knee issues my roomate suffers the same thing from our years as hockey and football players, He can barley run for 5-10 minutes before his knees flare up, but give the prick an elliptical machine and he'll go for hours cuz there is no stress on the knee joints.........
only thing i have ever heard of working to reduce cartilage issues is flaxseed oil, mix it in with your protein shakes or anything u drink and its supposed to help lubricate the joints....Its just what i heard I dunno how effective it is...

All my clothes are getting too big, but I don't want to buy any new ones because I plan on losing more weight and it would be a waste of money. Plus I freakin hate shopping.
