I was just wondering.....any Chess fans out there? Does anyone have any favorite chess players?
I would have to go with Kasparov as my obvious favorite. His wild attacking style is totally unparalleled in my opinion. His precision in both the opening and end-game are such a deadly combo that I don't think anyone even comes close. Historically I also like Lasker as probably my second favorite because he was the world champion for longer than anyone else in history. Lasker's ability to play defensively and offensively at whim made it tough to read him as an opponent.
Anyone else have an opinion?

I enjoy Chess a great deal, my grandfather used to do one of those chess puzzles for a local newspaper, you know white to mate in 4 moves etc........
He taught me to play when I was very young, I used to play on line some but the games were too slow and even in the speed games people would just walk away when they got in trouble. So I stopped, other than that I cannot find anyone to play the game with. I do not follow the pros very much but I would say that though a more traditional player is likely to be more a more consistent winner, a wildcard player is most likely to win it all because the traditional player will have a tough with struggle with his own offense as he tries to defend the unorthodox attack.

Simon, I play chess online all the time. I play on yahoo! chess. The games are timed so people lose if they walk away from it for too long. And people will forfeit points on their rating if they lose the game -so it is rare for someone to simply walk away at all. If you're ever up for a game for practice or whatever let me know.

I entered a chess tournament once and i wouldve got first place but one man was simply better than me, and i messed up.
And another man just simply moved his peices aggresivly and i was extremly intimidated and distracted. and we got a stalemate.
When i say he moved aggresivly i mean physicaly aggresive not mentaly or strategicly.
This was many years ago.

I did play on the Yahoo room but like I said a lot of people just walked away and the game timed out. I could not do it here at work there are too many interruptions. But it would be fun to play sometime.

Guys in the game of one-upmanship I am going to weigh in, back in high school there was this kid Bryan Wolf generally regarded as the smartest kid in our school, now this was just based upon grades, nothing more. He was captain of the chess team and the state champion 3 years running, our senior year I was taking calculus as a 0 period before school in the school library, I had finished that weeks test one Friday with some time to spare, usually I would head to the gym but at that moment Bryan was putting the finishing touches on one of his chess club subordinates, after watching the completion of the game I asked Bryan if he would be will to play me, mind you I was not in chess club.
Relishing the idea of beating the captain of the football team at something he eagerly agreed, short version I beat him easy 2 straight games and did so virtually every Friday there after for the remainder of the year, Mr. Martin the teacher that ran the chess club pursued me to become part of the team, I really had too much going on to add another activity. I have not played seriously in a decade or better.
