This is something that was discussed among a few people at this weekends CT tournament. It was mentioned that there should be a tournament held to settle and determine the "actual" N.E. rankings for all the weight classes. It was said that the people that are responsible for keeping the rankings updated and determined should get together and work on this idea. It is also thought that it would be the best way to determine the fairest start of the top 10 in each class. Rules would be pretty simple, you show, you pull, where you finish in the top ten is where you are ranked for the beginning of the list. If you do not show and compete you do not get ranked. It is pretty straight forward. It seems that the best place to hold this type of tournament would be some where in CT. It is pretty central for all the N.E. states. The rankings would then be modified as they are now after tournaments. In theory it would make a "true" list of the top ten in each class. Some people feel it shouldn't be determined by past accomplishments or the prospect that puller A could still beat puller G just because he did last year. We all know that life gets in the way and we are not all able to make every event every month. That will be, as always, taken in to consideration. I really think that this should be taken seriously and strongly considered to try and keep things fair. How do others think/feel?

Hi Jeramie,
I think the current system is pretty fair. The guys doing the rankings are doing a good job. It doesn't matter if they are off a couple of spots here and there. They also get a lot of input from us. The rankings aren't really that far off.
Peoples jobs and families have to come first. If Marcio missed a couple of tournaments, would anyone doubt that he is still the number one 242?
edit to correct the spelling of a name

No disrespect to Marcio but he misses more than a couple of tournaments, along with many others who are ranked in other classes. This thread was not ment to be directed at one or two people. It was ment to be directed at ALL of the N.E. pullers. I wish that some of the people that were in on this discussion would also give there thoughts and ideas that were mentioned.

Jeremy, It's tough ranking who's who and may not always be a popular job, however the top 2, 3, or 4 guys in a weight class usually know if they can bust the guy above them or not. Most guys in the top of their categories travel all around the country if not the world competing and may not make a tourney in CT or Mass, but they are still the top dog in that class. Barbosa will be the top 242 until someone in the Northeast at least challenges him. As the current 2nd ranked 242, I haven't been able to move the man yet, so he's still #1 until I can, whether he shows up or not. JMO All the best, Jim

Yes One Big One would be good But always someone who cant make it. Thats why the Big 5 CT Josh's Chrises and the Can AMs Plus antother in that area if Josh does two or the Black bear. Why because its central to everyone BUT you need to Pull more than 1 of these. should do a majority 3 If Possible to give everyone a chance.
Also there is only two tourments Maybe 3 if Josh still does two with a 220 class , so you have to grade in the 231 , theres no way around it and even grade the 242 event like the black bear in there to some degree . same with the other classes that Overlap each other 171 176 etc..

Once again, you bring up a good point. 220's, 231's, and 242's are all 242's. Most of us vary 5 to 10 pounds per week, and as much as 10 to 15 pounds per month. Under 199 pounds, 176, then 154 are fair cutoffs. Over 198, you only need 1 cutoff before the supers. It's 242. Its proportionate and fair and reasonable. The only other fair cutoff would be 231, but that's a AAA cutoff (which a unified governing body could adopt) I guess we are too splintered to unify though. That's a lot to ask for in a worldwide sport...all kidding aside...way too many egos involved.

Can you guys just say who it is that you are talking about?
I'll list them for you in each class if it helps. I got nothing else to do.
Supers- Jerry Cadorette no question he never pulls anywhere but he doesn't have to cause he will still win when he shows.
242 Marcio Barbosa- same reason as Jerry
198 - there are three guuys in this class fighting for first and no one is even in the same league as the three.
176 there are three guys in this class that everyone is chasing too.
154 eat something.
There you go. Fill in the blanks.

There you go. Fill in the blanks. Right on Pete. So many people forget that the reason behind the rankings was just to give the majority of those who DO NOT show up to a Nationals a chance to see where they fall in their weight classes, or at least that's the reason I thought!! The ONLY advice I can give those who DO NOT TRAVEL...stop buying smokes & going out to the bars, & spend some money on airfare already!! I lived alone, paid rent, truck payment, insurance, utilities, food & whatever & STILL was able to go to on an average of 12-15 Tournaments with a Nationals from 2000-2003!! CT is one of the most expensive places to live, & having to pay on an average of $1700.00 a month on basic living expenses, I made it a point to use my Extra cash to travel. I don't know how else to put it, but maybe I've said enough!! ;D ;D
