There was a thread a while back talking about this guy Jim Coyle from Oklahoma, and how he seriously hurt this guys thumb on a table after a tournament. If you're at a tournament and this guy below wants to pull you on a table that is sitting around, trust me if he's there he'll be waiting for people to start pulling on it, be careful. My brother had the pleasure of pulling him and his thumb is jacked and probably won't be able to pull with his right for at least a month if not longer. If he can't beat you straight up, he'll grip up with you clamping his finger along your thumb. If he does this, he's basically going to try and break your thumb off by jerking his elbow off the back of the pad. I'm not saying this out of disrespect, I'm saying this out of warning. I'm not quite sure why, but this guy has jacked up people thumbs in the past and will jack up your thumb, so don't pull him. He even had the nerve to try it on John Brzenk after a tournament in Colorado Springs.

I've never pulled this guy, but this is basically how my thumb got injured so badly in the first place. Some idiot clamped on to my thumb and ripped backward trying to pull my thumb out and slam it down in front of him instead of pin me to the side. I don't know the guys name, but I gave him a real good piece of mind (this wasn't at a tourney). My thumb was completely wrecked and I had 4 cortizone shots over the course of 3 years trying to avoid surgery, which I finally had this January. I have managed to get 90% bend back in the tip with a steel screw where the second joint used to be. Ppl. like this trying to deliberately hurt pullers with cheap moves should be monitored very carefully at tourneys.

I think that Dwayne Hanel just recovered from about 15 grand worth of surgery . He said something about already having won the match with Mr. Coyle and the guy did something either forward or snatching sideways somehow. I don't know the details . I do however know he was very angry for quite some time and he had to have his thumb reattached on one side by some type of anchoring. Dwayne Hanel is a very reserved person. If it was true I know an old guy I would like to see him try it on His name is Jim Fitzsimmons. Mr. Coyle should make sure his insurance premiums are paid up before hand .

And another thing...if this is true.....
I would think there could be some kind of assault charges brought against him, since there appears to be a pattern of him knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another.

He tried to pull me after the tournament, but luckily Mike Selearis wore me out so I didn't have anything left in the tank to give him. My brother on the other hand was pulling him and completely kicking his ass, then he did that move. He jerked so hard his elbow came up off the pad about 2 inches and off the back. Now tell me, does that not sound intentional? My brother's right thumb is swollen up about twice the size as his left. Seeing how he does HVAC for a living, it's going to be pretty hard to use tin snips when he can't even squeeze with his thumb.

I was wondering the same thing seeing how he does this knowing that it hurts people.

I agree. There is no room in armwrestling for someone who would intentionally do things like that. At my age if he was to do it to me at best he would need some new glasses and a nose job. It is a fact that he is the reason that Dwayne Hanel has not been able to return to armwrestling. Dwayne was so surprised because the match was over and he had won and then he said this Jim Coyle cracked his thumb over and snatched on it somehow and he knew right when the cartilage ripped off the bone. I think we should probably keep them seperated in the future. I think Dwayne would hurt him.

Wow, what a way to make a name for yourself in this sport. If he ever joins the board he should have immediate "legend" status on his avatar. Jim "Thumbreaker" Coyle!!! The most dangerous man in the game.

THAT IS B*LLSH*T!! PERIOD.
And the man is not a clown, he's one of the best guys around this sport. I promise, he has no reckless intention to hurt anyone, THAT IS REDICULOUS. I'm an ametuer and have been pulling with Jim Coyle, Dan Whittle and the rest of Team Oklahoma for about 6 months and my ametuer hand has NEVER been affected by Jim to feel like I was in any bad situation. He would give his shirt off his back to any one of you and never ask for anything back. I have nothing but respect for Jim Coyle, and for you guys who don't know him and trying to make him look like a punk is weak. Thats what you have refs for to call fouls and Quality Control the match.
I'm sure you guys will come back with your own reckless intention to trash someones name. But you should know that he is not as being advertised. period.

You know, if this hadn't happened before I would believe you, but apparently this has happened numerous times and was completely uncalled for ever time. I posted this as a warning to anyone who pulls him to watch out for when he sets up like this because it hurts people. You don't realize that this is not just about armwrestling, this guy/move is screwing with people's lives and well beings. Is he going to take the shirt off his back to pay for my brothers doctor bills if he goes? I doubt it.

Aaron, I'm sure Jim's a great guy and does seem to do well at tournaments. I personally meant him no disrepect. You must admit, Thumbreaker Coyle does have a nice ring to it. Tell Dan Whittle I said hello when you get a chance.

I think the real question is,
Chris, did you get permission from Gary Roberts to put up that picture? Clearly you got it off of Arm TV and as Gary has clearly stated in another thread, in the industry, it is common courtesy to ask or thanks those that provide, or something like that.
Whatever you do, don't put that pic on Facebook, cause the Gary would really be after you then.
