We are looking at having the tournament sometime in April-May 2010. There aren't many lightweights in this part of the country, that's why 165 is the lowest that I put in the poll. I want to stay with 3 weight classes to ensure everyone has a full class to pull in. I also have few questions, your input is invaluable to me.
1) Does having a $100 1st Prize or not make any difference when determining whether you will attend a tournament?
2) Would you pull a supermatch for a nice plaque with photo? ($0)

#1 COULD MAKE A DIFF TO LOCALS. $100.00 T/K That's true and that's why we will be doing several cash boxes that are available to the amateur classes. We've been hosting a local tournament for the last 6 years and the Pros have scared away all of the local pullers except for about 5-6. So I'm asking any pros that live within 4-6 hours if a $100 1st Prize really makes any difference. Another question, would you rather have the tournament at a top notch facility or have another $500-$1000 in cash boxes/prize money and host it at the local miniature golf course?

In my opinion, have both Am and Pro classes, but offer the cash prize to the pro class. The Am class will give the locals a sense of security that they won't get blown out, but offering the cash prize in the pro class will motivate some of the better Ams to also enter the pro class since they have nothing to lose. You'll get a number of double entries this way.
Location, location, location.

I agree giving away cash boxes for amateurs only encourages pullers to stay in the amateur class.

I agree with John, money is always nice but we know this is a drawback for the sport. But we have great people !! Location is always a factor , easy to get to and places nearby to eat, shop, and or just hangout and vacation. Was there a tourney at a lake resort in KY this year ? That would be a lot of fun and would bring the whole family , maybe a kids class ? Cost of lodging is always a consideration but a few days on the lake with a tournament during that time would rock.. I like the Ky area ..

Anything but 199 and up. That's a big spread. 220, 231, 242 are all good.
The hundred dollars is meaningless to me. I am there to win and for titles.
As for amateur, and/or novice/beginner they are cool too. A lot of people in the east confuse the two.
Some tourneys out west run all three.

chuck the tournament at the lake was Buckhorn Lodge...and it was a great place and a fun event! next year im goin fo sho and takin my ski boat! defintely a cool spot
i think that we should try to make our weight classes resemble the classes that pullers are going to find at major national and world events as much as possible. and yes...199+ seems lke to large of a gap to me. and the cash box idea seemed to work great...but it does need to be offered to the pro class i think...more motivation for people to make the jump IMO.

What if we only offered the $200 cash boxes to the pros and the $100 to the amateurs?

I would never pay an amateur, an amateur is somebody who doesn't get paid, but do it if you want to, you wouldn't be the only one. Just imo if I were putting on a tournament I would never give cash boxes to amateurs or novices.
