^^^That's actually a good point!!! Roller Derby is pretty big here, and is getting bigger. I don't get it, but I personally know a couple people who know people that sponsor and play on a team. There seems to be a lot of people with money behind it.

Back on topic and the point of this thread.....
It should not be a huge deal to be a promoter wanting "media" at your event to be able to kick some cash to Gary for coming out. You should always want to break even in the very least for putting on your tournament, but, anything after that....this is armwrestling we are talking about, if you're putting on event and expecting to redeem significant profits, you're in the wrong business.
In this sport, the success of your tournament is based on exposure and attendance....and ARMTV enhances both significantly.
I'll never be an ARMTV hater....ever. Anything I can do to keep it going is very important to me, I don't know what i'd do without ARMTV.
You've got to "sack up" Gary and quit being so nice and do what you have to do to maintain your product. 400 person membership is hardly making a killing....

This sport is absolutely filled with highly skilled people. It is crazy what people do around here when they aren't armwrestling.
Want to press a million units of DVDs and get them QC'd and into distribution by Tuesday? We got that guy. He's got an awesome hook too.
Got a building full of Tangoes and you need someone to put together an entry team? We got a guy who will be thrilled to wax some Tango ass and then blow the joint to pieces during the EXFIL. And you just thought he was the toproll master.
We got people everywhere in between too.
If Gary wanted advice he'd be asking for it. He's not. There's more free help available to him than anyone could ever hope to afford if they had to pay for it.

This is a sad day For most of the Male arm wrestlers . You either have arm tv or you are Informed by someone who does. But for most of the wifes of the guys who travel and spend a thousand to make or a chance to make six hundred . This is a great day for them. crap darts pays way more than arm wrestling . Like Travis said there is no pro arm wrestling . Most pro sports figures are paid very well . It sucks to throw in the towel Gary But i get it . Lots of people have tried to get this sport To get off the ground . I love the sport and have been in it for 35 yrs . Two steps forward and three steps back once again. Ready set Join arm tv ALL YOU cheep bastards . Good luck Gary

I don't post on here much, but i am always reading. I am having a hard time understanding why so many of the east and south east pullers and promoters are wanting so see arm tv fail. To all of the people that say they won't go to a tournament because they can watch it on arm tv i call B.S. you go to tournaments to pull and the ones you can't make it to for whatever reason you watch on arm tv. Or you watch arm tv to study your style or that of your opponents that you will meet at the next tournament. Arm Tv was a vision that was made into reality and the world of arm wrestling benefited from this 10 fold. Arm Tv did not fail us, rather we failed arm tv as a whole family, even the bastard step children. Arm wrestlers and the arm wrestling community will be greatly damaged by this. I wish for once our great country would unite together as a whole not only for arm wrestling, but the general greater good. In my short time in this world i have seen so much division, even between people with a common goal. Real americans that stand together are getting hard to come by. I will continue to fight for arm tv and my country by being true to both of them, even if others wait and watch their demise.
Gary thank you so much for what you have done and i hope by the grace of god you can continue.
Thank You.

John, I do thank you and Stump for your great ideas at AAA, really good stuff. I wish I could get better at applying it. I may not be that guy.
Thanks everyone, thanks ryan.
you all know the people keep you loving this sport. and minus a few knuckleheads...you are all more family to me than many of my extended family. That will always be true.

Gary,
ArmTV is a great thing. You know how I feel about what you do. I think you can sell the five core flavors of coffee and let people use tripods for the rest.
Cut costs. Look at other revenue streams.
If I was to put on an event next year, what would you charge me to ship me a pro quality camera in a pelican case? I'll record the event the way you would. Interviews, etc. Then I'll ship it back.
A camera like you use would cost me $4k to buy. I wouldn't use it enough in ten years to justify that. But I'd pay you a rental fee and shipping and insurance to make sure I got good footage and sound quality. Works for both of us.
Then I put the gear back in the pelican case with the DVDs and send it back to you.
It would be cheaper for me than paying you to fly down. You wouldn't have to fly. You get a weekend with the wife and I get pro quality video and ArmTv coverage.
I'll even get a hottie with interview skills to do the interviews, which is a bonus compared to looking at you on ArmTv, LOL.
I'm serious.

No one wants to watch armwrestling except armwrestlers. Once that "cow" is milked, you're out of business unless you find a sponsor. Gary to my knowledge has never sought out or has had any success finding an outside sponsor. Armwrestlers fund Arm TV. Once they stop, so does Arm TV. Case closed. 100 percent accurate. Matches are too quick and tournaments are too long for spectators.

Maybe all matches start in a hook? make it last a bit longer?

John, i forgot about that idea. that was a good one, one that I haven't tried yet but that is definitely an option I think would work. you would even do interviews huh?
I think it is a positive when people are willing to interview. It is one of my favorite aspects of seeing footage of an event that I wasn't at is when they go around talking to the competitors, I love that stuff. always have
if a promoter would just be willing to cover the shipping and insurance it would be worth it.

I love the interviews too. I like the idea of a knowledgeable attractive female interviewer who can really add insight to the questions. She should be on camera just like the networks do it.
I'm serious. I'll call you when I have an event for it. It will be one I don't pull so I can shoot video and stills.

I see both sides of this deal. Pay Arm TV to come or not to pay Arm TV to come. How about this....
We as promoters take out ads for our tournaments. I'm looking at 7 right now on the side of this page. Why not "Pay" Gary or an associates a flat fee to come to our event. In return, along with an Upcoming Event ad , he does a short video clip of highlights from last years event or makes up some kind of clip of the first year event. This way Gary is earning his money and this would be helping promote the event and should actually get more people to come to the event. Keep it simple. $250 gets you a 5 minute promo video and your tournament posted on ARMTV soon after the event. Throw in another $100 and you get Gary Roberts himself. It's probably not going to make Gary rich but it might keep ARMTV around a while longer. It beats fliers and stamps all day long. I used to spend $250 on stamps and flier copies back in the day. Just food for thought.
