There are changes to announce regarding the In the Hook rankings. After five and a half years of maintaining the North American rankings, I have decided to scale back my workload by handing off the responsibility of doing the USA rankings. I wanted my replacement to be someone who I thought would put as much effort into them as I did (or even more) and the only person that came to mind was Josh Handeland. Josh has been maintaining North American and regional rankings on his own site for awhile now, and I’m pleased that he’s graciously agreed to take on this task. I’m confident he will do a great job. The latest rankings revision can be found here: www.inthehook.com/top_north_american_rankings.htmlwww.inthehook.com/top_ten_overall_north_american_rankings.htmlThe USA rankings found on these pages were prepared by Josh. While we do not do the rankings exactly the same way, there are many similarities. However, this is why you may notice some significant ranking adjustments in certain classes. I will continue to maintain the Canadian rankings, and we will work together on the overall NA rankings. I’m sure Josh would appreciate any feedback.

Not bad. I'm glad to see Keith Powers is finally getting some respect!
My first question is how is Tony Villa ranked 2nd? Tony's a bad dude, but I don't see him beating anyone on that list.

Rankings look good but Robertas cannot beat Chad left handed. From what I remember Matt Harris has last win over Robertas and Matt can't beat Chad left either so just some useful info.

176 isn't accurate. But unfortunately some of the matchups we'll never see.

176 isn't accurate. But unfortunately some of the matchups we'll never see. First I must say Josh I think your rankings are much closer and with more reasoning than most out there, I think you will do a great job the 176 class is tough because of the 165/176 classes that throw stones in getting to see some of these matchups Luke is Ranked over Dye but I believe Luke lost only to Brandon Dye at UAL, both matches very close and Luke pulled the day before, but I dont think he will put much into that since he didnt have very tough matches I think Klemba is ranked too low, this may be based of Luke and Brandon both getting a win on Roman at UAL so its sorta understandable, I think Ethan is getting alot of credit for his wins over Cobra at nats and Im not sure that match would go the same way at present date, Cobra beat Matt Harris(yes on fouls but your elbow your responsibility) and Cobra had control of the match during both fouls, then of course throw in the fact Matt pulled the day before and but he didnt have much trouble with Ethan WADR 6-0 by far the toughest to rank IMO

Thanks everyone... glad nobody is super upset about anything. 176 isn't accurate. But unfortunately some of the matchups we'll never see. First I must say Josh I think your rankings are much closer and with more reasoning than most out there, I think you will do a great job the 176 class is tough because of the 165/176 classes that throw stones in getting to see some of these matchups Luke is Ranked over Dye but I believe Luke lost only to Brandon Dye at UAL, both matches very close and Luke pulled the day before, but I dont think he will put much into that since he didnt have very tough matches I think Klemba is ranked too low, this may be based of Luke and Brandon both getting a win on Roman at UAL so its sorta understandable, I think Ethan is getting alot of credit for his wins over Cobra at nats and Im not sure that match would go the same way at present date, Cobra beat Matt Harris(yes on fouls but your elbow your responsibility) and Cobra had control of the match during both fouls, then of course throw in the fact Matt pulled the day before and but he didnt have much trouble with Ethan WADR 6-0 by far the toughest to rank IMO That is very good and I agree that is is the toughest! Luke and Brandon both have win(s) on Allen Fisher and Roman, both of whom Klemba has never beaten. Matt beat Ethan 6-0 but Ethan was giving up weight since he pulled 165's and Matt was in the 185's and Cobra beat Matt in the 185's but Matt and Klemba killed each other so it's hard to say who would win fresh at 176. The UAL was very hard to take into consideration with the 76's split between 165 and 185, and because so many guys pulled the day before. IMO all of the 176's are so close with each other that any one of them could beat any of the other on any given day. Josh, please keep the 220's!!!!!!!!!!! Me and Eric were actually in agreement in eliminating the 220's from the rankings for a couple reasons, the main one being that all of the top 220's are also near or at the top of the 242's. Brzenk is the number one righty at 220 and Tom Nelson's the top dog lefty, they are also the top guys at 242. Sylvain Perron is the top Canadian pulled at 220 and at 242. It seems wrong to have the best 220 guy(s) being able to beat the best 242 guys(s) if we rank both classes. Also, MOST tournaments only have one class or the other. Looking at the 242 rankings for the USA, 7 of the top 10 right hand guys can make 220 and 7 of the top 10 242's left can make 220, so it seems to make more sense to me (and Eric) to just rank one class. But if you're 220 and you live in the USA you already know who you have to beat: John Brzenk and Tom Nelson - and they are the top guys at 242 as well so, same deal. Hopefully Josh has time to start including the ladies in the rankings. I actually am working on that right now... should be up there by the end of June Not bad. I'm glad to see Keith Powers is finally getting some respect! My first question is how is Tony Villa ranked 2nd? Tony's a bad dude, but I don't see him beating anyone on that list. I ranked Tony 2nd because a couple months ago he beat Big Bop Bishop at a Michigan tournament, and Tony was 198 for that tournament. He won 98's and supers. I don't think very many 98's could beat Bob Bishop - he's a bad dude in the supers. He also placed above Mike Bowling at Unified's, Mike pulled the day before though so it doesn't mean a whole lot, the win on Mr. Bishop was what really made me go "Wow". Rankings look good but Robertas cannot beat Chad left handed. From what I remember Matt Harris has last win over Robertas and Matt can't beat Chad left either so just some useful info. That was at the 2008 Harley Pull that Matt beat Robertas, correct? If so, Robertas lost to Klemba that day, too, and he has slammed him the last couple times he has pulled him. Robertas has dominated every tournament he has attended in the last 2 years, including the Harley Pull and Nationals. Matt also has a recent loss to Keith Powers, Klemba and Scott Ballinger both beat Keith and as previously mentioned Robertas has been making short work of Ron, and he also beat Scott Ballinger at 189 lbs. last summer in Chicago and Scott told me he had a lot of work to do still to beat Robertas lefty. As for Chad though, he may be able to beat Robertas but I wouldn't say for sure, Ron gave Chad quite the match lefty at the UAL... maybe he would have an opinion on this?

I don't know if he pulls enough, but I think Andrew Casto might need to be mentioned in 90kg right class. He looked great at Travis's NAL tournament. He beat Mike S. and Mike Bowling to win his class that day.
