Usually all these guys that are effectively using straps do lack in strength with cupping their fingers like a flat roof (as Engin would have put it) so they let go to straps to use their back rotation mix pressure and side pressure more effectively without worrying to hold on to their opponent as the straps do that part of the job.

Cupping with a static lock while curling the wrist and giving back pressure is not something that can be done super effectively at high level of armwrestling so these guys that rely on their forearm power esp., choose to utilize the strap to eliminate the hand part out of the equation.

straps also lower the power of your opponent who relies heavily on hand effective back pressure (toproll with the hand used as the main weapon) So it increases Jason Vale's power and decreases the other party that tries to toproll

Jason also uses his thumb and also closes his forearm in to himself which is completely different than what Bill Sinks does. But Bill does another effective techn so well in the straps to me they are both excellent in straps. Bill does a front wrist down back pressure in the straps where he carries his brachii away from the opponent making it harder to rotate him in. he does it perfectly too. text book examples on both these guys on how to use straps.

I learned a lot from both just practicing and watching how they pulled. I was lucky to stay at Jason Vale's house and practiced with the whole Newyork team a few times in the past. And also pulled Bill Sinks many times at different tourneys.

^^^ This! There are guys that have entire routines around getting the grip they want in the strap. Unless it's a ref's grip and they will nail the pullers for creeping their elbow North and South, strap pulling is about who can cheat better. I haven't been in the sport that long but that's my observation.

Good observation I think the refs should spritz the pullers with water bottles when they start cheating the grip a la Devon in the High Hookers vids ;D
