When I asked our lovely friend Harold Ryden to donate $1 to Roman's support fund, he said " My prayers" . I'll ask him to pray again.....for the future of American Armwrestling.

LOL, exactly Leonard. You paid $800 to get to Orlando. So how much do you think it costs me to get from Orlando / Tampa to Billings? Plus hotel, plus car. Let me break out my TI86 Super Duper Calculator.... yep, just as I suspected. Glad I'm not crazy. (I'm kidding with you, Leonard. But the numbers keep adding up like I said they do.) But you're also supporting the point I made: it's always cheaper to fly to a hub. Orlando is not a small market, it's a premium destination 12 months a year. It is fairly expensive to fly into because of that. I would love to host a Nationals, but I'd never hold it here because of that. Hotels never go on sale and flights are never cheap. God help you if you want to fly to Florida anywhere around Daytona 500 week, Bike Week, etc. It can be brutal. If I ever host a Nationals I'll hold it in Atlanta or Charlotte for those reasons. Yeah it will be a much bigger pain in the butt to organize rather than driving around my home town, but for the other 300 people who have to travel to the event it would be light years better and way cheaper. That's my point. My cost was from Portland to Orlando remember I moved and I just checked and with a 2 week notice you can fly from Orlando to 'Billings for 347.00 you just never know what these prices are going to do. You just set them up and hope for the best.

Comparing cossfit to AWing is way off... Not even the same planet.
The people complaining about the money are mostly the ones that can't come at all... The ones who do... They pay to pull and it's their prerogative to spend what they want after the event... Be it beer, drugs... Hookers...
Given huge sports like NASCAR, football, baseball, boxing... Etc... Have major sponsors from beer companies... All their major stars are seen in clubs... At casinos... Doing god knows what... It's life... It has no effect on the sport... None

Your somewhat right Rob about the money situation. But there are people out there that dont voice there opinion online, but through word of mouth that moneys tight and cant afford going to fly into EAU, or Billings etc... One main reason i didnt go to Unifieds this year. Wasnt that i wasnt going to attend. Its one of my favorite ones to attend. But i just cant throw a 600+ plane ticket away on every event that i choose to fly too. So instead i flew to Los Angeles for 350 and went to THE UAL.
Nothings going to change because of this discussion. Im sure all are nice places to take your family to, to spend the weekend or whatever while you are there. But 99 percent come to armwrestle and go home. Not to mention who has the money to spend to fly out a family out somewhere that a ticket is 600+. Theres cheaper airports to fly to!!! Why not make the choice to host a tournament where its not going to cost a fortune to go. Must make to much sense. I would think it would make for a better turnout, ESPECIALLY for the ones concerned about making a better USA TEAM. Just saying theres always room for improvement. Thanks for reading.

im not one to speak much about arm wrestling on here or on facebook but i do read it all most of the time at work when im board
but i will say this... about flights, I just spent $3000 round trip tickets for 2 ($1500 a person) from Salt Lake City, Utah to Sofia Bulgaria something i do every summer last summer was about $2500 for 2 round trip and back in Dec 2006 i payed $900 round trip for 1... all round trip from SLC - Bulgaria... my point being if you are down for something and it really means something to you then you will pay no matter what the price is... ya tickets are high flying to some places and cheaper to others at farther distance.... big freakin deal stop crying if you wanna go to USAF then pay the damn money and go... save your freakin money as the year goes by, $100 a month x 12 months is $1200 plan ahead make a budget...
my first nationals was in Reno 2 years ago and I loved it i live in SLC so pretty close and i still spent a good amount of money and i was close, if i was at that "top" level in my weight class every year and i made team USA every year, you better freakin believe i would be going to worlds every year even if it was on the moon!!!!!!!! to have a chance to put on the TEAM USA shirt and stand on stage with the American Flag on my shirt or in my hands getting a medal is something that makes it all worth it!!!!!!! suck it up save your money and stop crying... if you want it bad enough you will spend $20 less a month on beer or $20 less a month on junk food or $20 a month less on cigarettes or $20 less a month on what ever u can go without to put on a TEAM USA shirt and feel proud to be on stage and to know that deep in your heart you are a champ becuz you made it to worlds and your country is who you represent!!!!!!! even if you dont medal.... wearing that shirt and having the flag in your hands pulling for TEAM USA is what its about even if you dont win a medal... you put your heart and soul and pride behind the American flag!!! so if you know for a fact your not going to worlds that year then dont bother even showing up to USAF and let someone else that would go to Worlds try and place top 2 to give a team to put on the shirt and go give it there all ..... sorry for the rant just my feelings

Interesting conversation! I haven't been here on 'the board' for quite a while, but i just wanted to say that at this time, I believe that money IS a big factor in many people's plans when it comes to putting it out for armwrestling. I just wish it was an easy answer as to where to hold nationals so it's economic for everyone across the nation...
Also, the question as to how the TEAM USA is filled... I have travelled with Team USA as a qualifying member and one who wasn't able to qualify...at least in the weight division i went in. I think both sides of the argument are valid. I have never stayed home with the hopes that I could still grab a spot on the team. I will say that now that Rainee has graduated, I hope to be able to get back into traveling and competing more like I used to for many years. I have missed it terribly so hopefully i can get back into condition so I can be competitive once again. But hopefully the smartest decision will be made by the board members.
I will definitely be at Reno next year qualifying for Worlds... ;D
