There is no UAL Nationals.
There is the USAF National Championship the host is going to be Bill Collins and yes it is in Reno Nevada.
As long as we are on the subject it is very likely with this event that we will no longer allow athletes that did not attend the USAF National Championship in each current year to compete on Team USA at the WAF event. It is likely we will pass a policy that you must attend the USAF National Championships to be considered for Team USA at the Worlds.

And that's why nobody came to Unified Nationals 2013 knowing for sure they will be in Team anyway, just making a phone call?

No that is not why they didn't come and by looking at the list of members they are not filling it up with non attendees either. This option has been there and used since the first Unified in 1998. If you want to be assured of a spot on the team then go to the Unified and get your spot if you are good enough. Even if you place 3rd, 4th etc you have a shot. The open filling of spots is and has been used only if no one that attended wants the spot. Why go to Worlds with a open Team USA spot if someone wants to represent us? The board can vote to discontinue this practice that has been used since the beginning if it chooses to but all that is going to happen is that some armwrestlers won't have the opportunity to represent USA at the WAF World Championship.

I receive a lot of calls from athletes even before the National Championship event telling me they cannot go to Nationals but if there is spot available they would like to fill it.
There is some amount of knowing that they do not have to go to Nationals to find a spot on the team, particularly if the WAF event is not being held in a country that generates a great deal of interest from US pullers, and or it will be a long and expensive trip.
There has been conversation on the board that we should only allow those that attend Nationals to be on team USA. No vote has been taken on this one yet but it seemed like an appropriate moment to mention it might change and see what the athletes think about this approach.

For clarification, I am not the host of next year USAF nationals, it is hosted by UAL...UAL is owned by Robert, Matt and myself and Roberts contact at Harrah's, solidified next year nationals... On the other note UAL may be hosting it's own Nationals, stand alone...UAL style!!

Nice so 4 nationals......at least were not calling every tournament a world championship like they did in the old days. A great tournament is a great tournament but it doesn't have to have the national label to get a good turnout. I know, it's a dead horse.

Maybe there should be 5 regional championships and ONE so called national where one the top 4 from each regional competition can compete for the national title
