Karen, did you read the thread about the Ohio State results? If so what is your input on this, and is the AAA going to stand for this kind of garbage? These kind of tourneys and the way that things were handled will damage the AAA name.

I read it Willie and thanks for all the specific points you spelled out on this event. Sorry to hear Boomer has a bad taste when it comes to AAA just from attending the Ohio State event in the past. You came to Nationals Willie and know how we run our events so please express this to Boomer. I've got the gun loaded, serial number sawed off and am on my way this weekend to shoot Sam between the eyes. Seriously, all joking aside, we will definitely copy the points that were expressed on this board and discuss them with Sam and Betty and see where we go from there. Hopefully we'll see you and Boomer soon.

If you "sawed" off the number the gun wouldn't shoot very well.
I think filing them off works better.

If this easies any minds about OH State, we talked to Sam & Betty, and my wife Chris will be helping with AAA brackets next year, that was one of the biggest problems this year, 2 new people doing brackets they had never seen before, Betty did the best she could with what she had. I know it was frustrating, and everything got crazy with lots of people running up asking questions at the bracket table. Sam has already said if the Ramada doesn't get a new PA system it won't be there again, and I promise I won't ref next year so that will fix part of the ref problem ;D

Shane, I just don't feel that I'm fast enough to make quick calls, and with all the complaints about the refs, it had to have been the table I was on or Sam's, and Sam has always been a great ref, you may not like his calls, but he calls what he see's. What exactly are some of the ref complaints? So that they can be corrected. I know of one call that I made, it was on Sonny Gay, and I talked with him about it afterward, I don't remember who he was pulling, but he went to roll his shoulder in behind his hand and laid it right on the pin pad, I called the loss on Sonny, and told him why, and heard stuff from the crowd because of it, but that's AAA rules: 1. PIN PAD TOUCH Competitors must touch any portion of their opponent's shoulder to fingertips on the pin pad. If competing right handed, the winning competitor must touch the opponent to the winner’s left hand side pin pad. The opposite will be for left handed competition.
I, like Sam, call what I see, just not quite as quickly some times.

Mike, I myself had no problem with the way Sam or you reffed any of the matches! I think others had a problem with the reffs more than me! I had a couple of bad calls but nothing to get upset about!! I also heard alot about the Sonny Gay match...But you are right that is the rule..I Was Telling him about it before you walked over to him to explain it to him... It Seems the main beef is about who should be in what class (since the break arm)And just how the tournament was ran overall? Guys not pulling enough matches and some pulling to many matches...Ryan Werner lost 4 or 5 times in my class and some only lost one time...just things like that was going on in different weight classes... I'm still wondering why AAA brackets were not used in this tournament? Christy had them in her car,She even offered them to Betty but she told her No,So rather than use AAA Brackets they used brackets they were not Familiar with? That still makes no sense to me? that could had solved alot of problems?Besides i seen the brackets that were used anyways,Did anyone else? They looked like regular brackets to me? The Pa System was a problem last year and was even worse this year! I think the Ramada Inn needs to invest into a new one? So when you have a PA System that aint worth Sh!t And a bracket system that no-one seems to understand..that alone will hurt the tournament! And just wondering? Hows does everyone like having the tournament in the pool room? So back to you Mike,I really think you did a good job as a reff! You called what you seen and thats all anyone can ask!!! And slow or not as long as you feel you made the right call thats all that matters!!!! I Don't think anyone lost a state title over a bad call this year!

I not only was offering the brackets, I tried to give them a pa system that I normally have in my car(I had left it a home), and it didn't work out. The brackets that they were using were just lines drawn to other lines and with no loosers bracket. The brackets I had were the ones that Karen had sent to me when I requested them when I was AAA WV director and I've used them every since. They tell you the order the matches should be run when someone looses where to put them in the loosers bracket and so forth.
As for the call on sonny, he did try to stop a pin by throwing the shoulder in and his shoulder touched the pad. There was the comment by someone that they had never heard of this and I told them that it is in theAAA rules and they said "then Sam should have mentioned it when he was going over the rules", Which is true. The other thing is when someones arm came off the pad then they should have stopped the match and restarted with a foul. When they were telling the guy to get his elbow back up onto the pad, because Doug Allen was shoving him off the back, that is when he got it broke.
Mike I thought you did a great job. The only thing is when someone from your team came up to the table people were saying you should have switched with Sam or Stutz. But I think you did a good job anyway. So Quit kicking yourself.
