Aside from Iran, Turkey has the largest concentration of Jewish people in a predominantly Islamic nation. In 1492 they came to Istanbul after Ferdinand of Spain exiled all the Jews from their land, and they were accepted by the leader of Turkey (I forget his name).
Yes, something other than "Columbus sailing the ocean blue" happened that year.

For me it is pretty simple. You take 2 prisoners and want to ransom them for thousands of political prisoners and openly tell Israel that you will hold them until this happens. Then they expect Israel to do nothing? Don't think so. Then when Israel gets violent they throw rockets into Israel. Again a sane person can predict what was about to happen. Israel is surrounded by countries that want to wipe them off the face of this earth, they cannot even appear to be weak. If Hamas doesn't back off, Israel will level that country. JMO

a few months ago Palestina had a democratical elections, one of the political party that was in election was Hamas.both Israel and USA did let Hamas to be part of this election.
then people of Palestina has choosed Hamas to be their represantative.then both Israel and USA did not like the results of the "DEMOCRATICAL" elections, because the understanding of democracy for them is "WHATEVER THEY WANT".
so both Israel and USA cut the international aid to Palestanian civillians to punish them for choosing Hamas (that was let by USA and Israel to be part of the elections)in the "DEMOCRATICAL" elections.
Palestanian people (at least i consider them as people) has been without food, drugs and electric city for months because of the desicion of them was not pleasent for Israel.they have no contact with the world now.
so if they get enough punishment then next time they would not elect Hamas, and they would put pressure on Hamas to resign their position even though they were elected with a "DEMOCRATICAL" election.
Israel protecting itself?
civillians, including two little girls are playing at the beach.then without any reason they got shot and killed by Israeli military.this brought an anger in their nation (should not get angry because their lives are not that important since one million of them are equal one zionist finger nail).
then Israeli military crossed "ANOTHER COUNTRY" with their weapons, two of them were arrested.
then Israel declared,"if you dont free our soldiers we are gonna beat the sh.t ....!!!
then the Lebanese declared," yes but you have been prisoning our over 10.000 mostly civillians with women and children".
then Israel started to bomb and killed 400 civillians in a short time with their air planes crosses the borders of another country.
the Lebanese started to send their missiles back to Israel (which they should not,(because they are created only to be killed).
now Israel is ready to occupy Lebanon by the reason that they can keep their country out of range of Lebanese bombs.while they are capable of sending their over 300 NUCLEAR WEAPONS even to the European capitols.
so please let us see the truth, which is zionists are killing who ever they want to kill just to expand it's borders to fulfill it's greater Israel dream.and they use USA by having political control on them.
peace can happen only when the races do not see themselves higher than other races.

Engin, I am only commenting about this part of your post - not the war or feelings between the sides: a few months ago Palestina had a democratical elections, one of the political party that was in election was Hamas.both Israel and USA did let Hamas to be part of this election. then people of Palestina has choosed Hamas to be their represantative.then both Israel and USA did not like the results of the "DEMOCRATICAL" elections, because the understanding of democracy for them is "WHATEVER THEY WANT". so both Israel and USA cut the international aid to Palestanian civillians to punish them for choosing Hamas (that was let by USA and Israel to be part of the elections)in the "DEMOCRATICAL" elections. If Palestine chose Hamas for their government, don't you think that it is fair tp pull the support froma country that is no longer considered an ally? As you stated, the US let Hamas be part of the election. The people voted and Hamas won. OK. So the US does not like the result, that does not change it. Why should the US continue to send money. Let one of the countries who like the result send money. Maybe France. Hopefully the US can use the money to help our own country We have homeless, elderly and crime here too. Those funds are needed here as well. Help begins at home. Hopefully these conflicts will soon end. Pray for peace!

i think you did not understand what i wrote.USA and Israel cut "INTERNATIONAL " aid,not only their aid.
let me repeat again ,they cut "INTERNATIONAL" aid to reach these civillians.
even now to Lebanese Civillians, "INTERNATIONAL" aid can not reach, except a little that was sent by redcross.Israel does not let "INTERNATIONAL" aid to reach to innocent civillians.
i hope these cleared the things.
PRAY FOR PEACE?

i think you did not understand what i wrote.USA and Israel cut "INTERNATIONAL " aid,not only their aid. Thanks for clearing that up. I am unsure how they could cut aid Internationally. That would normally be the doings of each country independently. I am sure France is still helping (sarcasm of France here). 17: So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. I agree completely with this...

United States Aid to Israel: Funding the Occupation
Israel is a funded state. Despite its own relatively healthy economy, it continues to receive aid from the US, in disproportion to both the country’s population and needs.
The financial aid alone that Israel receives from the US allows it to purchase tanks, helicopter gunships, F-16 war planes, machine guns and bullets – all of which it uses to commit human rights violations against the Palestinian people on a daily basis. When it is not possible for the Israeli government to use the funds directly on military expenditure, their use elsewhere frees up other Israeli government funds to pay for military salaries, services and facilities.
Military power is required for Israel to maintain its occupation of the Palestinian territories, implemented through a system of expanding settlements, checkpoints and closure. It is therefore no exaggeration to say that the US is funding and supplying the Israeli government’s occupation of the Palestinian territories, as without financial subsidies from the US, the Israeli government would have found it considerably more difficult to sustain its military occupation of the Palestinian territories for the past thirty-four years.
Snapshot of the state of Israel
Israel’s population is 6 million people, including:
› 182,000 illegal settlers in the West Bank › 20,000 illegal settlers in the occupied Golan Heights › 7,000 illegal settlers in the Gaza Strip › 176,000 illegal settlers in East Jerusalem1
Israel ranks as the 16th wealthiest country in the world, and Israelis enjoy a per capita income higher than Ireland, Spain, or oil-rich Saudi Arabia.2
Israel’s GNP is higher than the combined GNP of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.3
Since 28 September 2000, Israeli police, soldiers and settlers have killed more than 2,050 Palestinians -- the vast majority of them civilians -- in contravention of international law.
A BREAKDOWN OF UNITED STATES AID TO ISRAEL
Financial Aid
The Israeli government is the largest recipient of US financial aid in the world, receiving over one-third of total US aid to foreign countries4, even though Israel’s population comprises just .001% of the world’s population and has one the world’s higher per capita incomes.
Since 1949 the US has given Israel a total of $84,854,827,200. The interest costs born by US taxpayers on behalf of Israel are $49,937,000,000 – making the total amount of aid given to Israel since 1949 $134,791,507,200 (more than $134 billion).5
The total cost of this financial aid to US tax payers per Israeli is $23,240.
Since 1992, the US has offered Israel an additional $2 billion in loan guarantees every year.6
Nearly all past loans to Israel have been forgiven – leading Israel to claim that they have never defaulted on repayment of a US loan – with most loans made on the understanding that they would be forgiven before Israel was required to repay them.
In 1997 alone, the total of US grants and loan guarantees to Israel was $5.5 billion, i.e., $15,068,493 per day.

they are surrounded by Israel,it is not 100% physical control but political control too.
Red Cross slams Israel barrier BBC February 18, 2004
Israel says the barrier is designed to stop suicide bombers The International Committee of the Red Cross has condemned Israel's building of a barrier in the West Bank as "contrary" to international law. The aid agency said the barrier, whose proposed route cuts into Palestinian areas, went "far beyond what is permissible for an occupying power".
Israel says the barrier is designed to stop suicide bombers.
But Palestinians dispute the barrier's legality and say the wall is little more than a land grab.
The ICRC's comments come just days before a hearing at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on the legality of the controversial barrier.
Israel says the court does not have the authority to hold hearings on the barrier.
'Outspoken statement'
The ICRC, a neutral, Swiss-based organisation, has been observing construction of the security fence.
It says that, where the barrier runs through occupied territory, thousands of Palestinians have been deprived of access to water, health care and education.
It has also caused extensive damage to Palestinian land and property, the agency adds.
"The problems affecting the Palestinian population in their daily lives clearly demonstrate that it [the barrier] runs counter to Israel's obligation under [international humanitarian law] to ensure the humane treatment and well-being of the civilian population living under its occupation," it said in a statement.
"The ICRC, therefore, calls upon Israel not to plan, construct or maintain this barrier within occupied territory."
The organisation stressed that it respected Israel's right to protect itself and the statement did not call for a halt to building altogether.
But BBC's Imogen Foulkes in Geneva says it was an unusually outspoken statement from a normally neutral body.
The Israeli ambassador to international organisations in Geneva, Yaakov Levy, told the Associated Press news agency that Israel "regretted" the ICRC's decision to criticise the barrier.
"There is a danger that the position presented by the ICRC will be turned into a political tool against Israel's measures of self-defence," he said.

UN agency condemns Israeli tank fire on Palestinian school in Gaza Strip Report, UN News, 2 June 2004
Peter Hansen Calling it a "violation of the sanctity" of schools, the main United Nations relief agency helping Palestinian refugees today condemned "in the strongest possible terms" Israeli tank fire that hit a school in Rafah in the Gaza Strip, wounding two 10-year-old boys.
"This is the second time in a little over a year that a child in a UN classroom has been struck by Israeli fire," UN Relief and Works Agency Commissioner-General Peter Hansen said.
"Such indifference to the sanctity of schools and the UN flags flying above them violates all humanitarian norms and is absolutely deplorable. Israel's military must take steps to investigate this incident and, if necessary, bring to justice those responsible," he added. UNRWA said it would protest to the Israeli authorities "in the strongest possible terms."
The incident was the latest in a month of violence which has left more than two dozen Palestinians and 17 Israelis dead and some 3,500 Palestinians homeless because their houses were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable.
Several tanks shots struck UNRWA's Al-Umariye Elementary Boys' School on the main road into the Tel Es-Sultan of Rafah, one of them hitting the window frame of a second-floor classroom. A bullet, or shrapnel from the window, entered the room where it struck two boys. One was lightly injured in the head. The second was struck in the neck and rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. His condition is still serious, but is now improving.
In March last year a 12-year old pupil was hit in the head and blinded by a bullet fired from an Israeli observation post on the outskirts of nearby Khan Younis.

Israel obstructs medical aid Report, PHR, 18 May 2004
Since the early morning Physicians for Human Rights-Israel has received complaints concerning obstruction of medical teams from aiding the wounded in Rafah Refugee Camp.
The road from Rafah to Khan Younis has been closed by the Israeli army. Therefore, as of now, 12 wounded persons cannot be evacuated to the European Hospital- an advanced medical center. This leaves Yousef Al Najar Hospital – which does not have an intensive care unit and is lacking needed equipment – to deal alone with all the people and the enormous load.
Two ambulances were stuck in Tel Sultan neighborhood from the early morning, since the Israeli army did not allow them to reach 8 wounded and 3 dead people; it also did not allow them to return to the hospital. Only at about 13:00 were they released and were allowed to begin to search for the dead and wounded. As of now, the wounded have yet to be evacuated. Physicians for Human Rights-Israel is also investigating complaints that two ambulances were fired upon by the Israeli army in the same area.
Two ambulances that were in Khan Younis in the early morning are stuck at the checkpoint unable to return to the hospital.
Physicians for Human Rights-Israel turned to the media, Members of Knesset, and is considering taking legal action in order to stop the attack and allow for normal medical activity. Physicians for Human Rights-Israel condemns any attack on medical vehicles, institutions or staff, and calls on all sides to respect all relevant International Humanitarian Law.

some of the countries in the world are very powerful in economic, military and of course in political ways.so because of this they can effect the desicions of the other nations by using blackmail methods.
that is also for sure that Israel has been making things very very hard for the international aid to reach innocent Palestanian civillians.
from one side aid tries to reach these people and from the other side their homes get destructed by Israel.so they are slaved to live in a starving life conditions.

Engin, Have you printed in all of these articles why Israel and the U.S. stopped sending support to the Palestine's? Hamas has continued to proclaim that Israel should be exterminated. So why should we or anyone else help a government that wants to completely destroy Israel? As for our aid to Israel, that is our choice in deciding who to give aid to and who not to. No one, I repeat, no one has a RIGHT to U.S. dollars sent in aid. If the Palestinians pick a radical group to lead them then they have to live with the consequences and they should help themselves instead of crying to the world that they need help. there has been millions sent to that country and it evidently has done no good.
