Sorry Las for the slow response. Just a tired dude sometimes, and takes me a while to get back. I;ll just hit my opinion 2 things 1) on weight gain/protein retention/non specific excrecise (ie crossfit or anything not armwrestling related). Like Curtis said, i think your body can only retain x amount of protien. with hard trainning/nutrition whatever you can can increase your retention. which means more strength. for the most part, armwrestlers don't care about the protien they are retaining outside of their armwrestling chains. This becomes limited by your nature/lifestyle, and i believe by your balance. I believe that your body will not let you fall too far out of balance. If you work opposing muscle groups, bring balance to the body by working legs you will obviously hold more muscle, and i believe your body then allow you build more muscle in the chains you want. this - in a taper is even more compounded, because i believe your organs can build up enough steam by working hard to heal the whole body, and then for a short period you can get way way strong in whatever you want, your organs still used to healing the whole body. anyways... just ideas, but i am a huge fan of armwrestlers puting weight on their legs to get stronger. (easy to say for super heavywieghts, but i would still say do it regardless of class)
On the doctor point and everything. i would just say a few things. All these medicines need to be more studied.. there is lots of data out there, it is just for the most part underground i believe. guys should just know what your getting yourself into in regards to the "level" that you are armwestling on, take small steps, regardless of the athlete your pulling.. i think it is ok for guys to pull in this sport doing whatever they want to do, just so long as there is honesty, cause this is sport.. not win at all costs, and if your gonna disapprove of R.C. for pulling tournament, but its cool for her to pull supermatches cause everyone knows the deal, its no different then a dude pulling in a tournament if he's got more in him.
anyways. i feel like it is still the dirtiest subject in sport, but light does need to shine on it otherwise it will never heal.

I think this is a very interesting thread, and i feel that this is a time in history where perhaps preformance enhancing medications will get some light shed on them. I feel that during my life these medications have been somewhat of a taboo subject, but as time goes on, people get braver, and the amount of evidence that piles up makes the entire community curious and want open discussion and information. I believe that testing is a massive issue in armwrestling. Most people start down the road of physical/strength/health improvement and it leads them to armwrestling or some other activity. Armwrestling at a high competitive level is NOT healthy... for many reasons.. but it doesn;t stop us from doing it. THe modern question i believe is ... 1) if you do this activity are you actually going to be healthier if you use medications? (like after a car crash) 2) How does one put in a testing plan that actually works. financially and is effective. and is this what the sport needs?
More back to the topic, since i heard my name. I am a natural athlete. What i have done can be accomplished without medicines. at about 18-19 years i was a very hungry very very skinny 205. my first 2 tournaments i cut to the 198 lb class. I shortly afterwards got a unique job that gave me 2 interesting nutritional plans. sometimes it is an all you can eat buffet every meal, and then for long periods of time you are way under caloried and way depleted. as soon as i got this job i went to 220-225 lbs. i stayed at this weight for a few years, dieting down to 220 for most tournaments. this became harder, and i started to go after heavy weights anyways, so it crept with time to 230 235 and then i was done going after the weight class 220. During this time frame (ages 20 - 34 about) i was focused on gaining size and strength. I would at times get to eat all i wanted, i would always eat a massive meal before bedtime. I would use creatine monohydrate before most competitions or a period of 3 to 6 weeks. i have used other supplements - vasodialtors, amminos, protien, but i think for the most part creatine is the only one that made any real difference. so you could say that at 21 yrs i was a ripped up 225 lb guy who was very healthy, at about 25-26 i was 235 very healthy, and i was able to get my weight to settle at 240ish for the rest of my life so far. with intense trainning, limitless calories, and creatine i was able to get to 253 lbs for a short time (i think i was a bit fat). the heaviest i ever competed was 247 against John Brzenk i think i was 33, i normally compete around 240-45, depending on how much food and how much trainning i can get.
I am drug tested periodically, but i have never been tested for competition. I have said before that i am willing to test at any time, competition or not. I think it would be a good thing for the sport. It is a great step that the WAF is testing. Unfortunatley for many athletes, financially speaking the WAF is a completely unresponsible choice.... provincials, nationals, worlds, all unpaid, expenses, time off.. if your country doesn;t recognise the sport and you go... in my opinion.. your crazy. Countries need to get armwrestling recognized and their athletes taken care of.
to summarize - I don;t have any great answers. I am not a promoter, i do not fully understand their struggles and their responsibilities. I do feel as an athlete if you armwrestle at a high level your body will pay for your fun one way or another. THe bigger the match, the bigger the glory the bigger the pain. you can reach the top clean, but you will hurt. maybe more than the guy who takes medicine, maybe less in other ways, either way.. it would be great if some doctors really took a good un biased look at what we do.

All slips should go to straps, regardless of position. it is so much easier and simpler for everyone, reffs, competitors, and fans. David, the strap version you showed, i feel would not do much to stop guys to continue to slip, and fouling them for this would just further complicate things. Even with the current strap system people still come out/break them. this just means 2 straps... no foul. The current strap should be looked at so that there is no "good side" of the table - something with a small middle piece which puts a buckle on each opponents hand in the same position, then a long piece to do the weave. it would be tightened at both sides simultaneously. also the strap should be wider.

Hey guys, Jodi here!!
Needless to say, I am sooooo happy for my husband!!!! He completely dominated Pushkar!!!! 5-1..and yes, there was holding, talking, can opening and general CRUSHING happening. I know this may not be very nice of me to say, but Arsen, stuff that in your cake hole, and I hope you choke on it!! Or in more respectful terms (though you, Arsen, certainly didn't show any respect when speaking of my husband), time to recognize the truth for what it is. A Canadian man, who has a full time job, a wife and three kids, is not paid by his country to train for his sport, must find the time on his own to do so, has NEVER taken steroids, growth hormone or ANY other illicit performance enhancing drug IS THE NUMBER ONE ARMWRESTLER ON THE PLANET!!! NUMBER ONE LEFT AND NUMBER ONE RIGHT!!!!
Congratulations, Devon...and Happy Anniversary...bringing me home a number one ranking is a completely acceptable Anniversary present! xo

Hi All...This is Jodi Larratt, Devon's wife. As i don't have an account of my own, thought I'd steal his avatar to voice my opinion on this incredible match up. It goes without saying that I am slightly biased when it comes to my favourite armwrestler in the world but I do want to say a few things that I think are relevant. First off, I want to thank Ian Carnegie of the MLA and Eric Roussein for bringing this match together. Eric ran a top notch tournament at the Toronto Pro Show. It was unfortunate, however, that so few armwrestlers from Ontario showed up...where were you all??? At this point, I will offer a personal thank you to all of the women who didn't enter, as it made it quite easy for me to win my first pro tournament. But to all the competitors who competed, congratulations on a great day. Now, onto Devon & Tim... Understand that I speak with a certain amount of insight when it comes to what Devon thinks and does, so here we go. In NO way, did Devon underestimate Tim's strength, ability or armwrestling intelligence. Infact, it was quite the opposite. Devon clearly knew he would have a serious battle on his hands when fighting Mr. Bresnan. Many discussions about the under ranking of Tim Bresnan have taken place in our home over the past several weeks. Devon had and has nothing but the utmost respect for Tim and it appeared from everything I PERSONALLY witnessed, that Tim feels the same way about Devon. It boggles my mind that if these two amazing competitors can treat each other with such a level of respect, than why is it so difficult for others to do the same (Opitz...in case there was any question as to whom I'm referring). Next...Devon's weight...yes he came in lighter than usual...yes, weighing more than 80lbs less than Tim. I will NOT get into it any further than this, but he had some dietary restrictions based on a health issue that is NOT serious that prevented him from packing on pounds before this match as he would usually do in preparation (and we're really only talking a matter of 10 or so lbs anyway). With all the respect that I could have for a person, I congratulate Tim Bresnan on his performance against my husband. He did an amazing job and truly had my cortisol levels shooting through the roof (that's a hormone released during stressful times...for those of you who are not intelligent enough to know that..Optiz...just in case it wasn't clear to whom I was referring). But that being said...and here is where I want to make a very clear and important point. Devon Larratt IS the number one armwrestler in the world. He has won this title repeatedly and defended it against Tim last weekend. Whether or not Tim is or looked stronger, whether or not you have a problem with the reffing (which you shouldn't..it was well reffed), whether or not it was close, whether or not Tim or anyone else could beat him in a tournament, whether or not you like the format, whether or not the earth is round or flat (it's round...just so you know, Opitz)...Devon Larratt, who is an all NATURAL HEAVY weight (meaning he leaves the pharmaceuticals at the pharmacy...someone else can feel free to translate that for Opitz) competes against the best SUPER heavy weight armwrestlers in the world and has beaten them all so far. I implore all of you, to give credit where it is due. Devon won against Tim because, at the end of the day, he was the better armwrestler. Within the confines, rules and regulations of this sport, he won. If another competitor fouls out, it means, they did not have the ability at that time to win the match without doing so. It does not mean anything other than that. If you lose on fouls, it's a loss. End of sentence. Devon gives his heart, soul, mind and body to this sport. He puts every ounce of himself into his matches. He limped away from this match with among other things, a torn hamstring and a musculature consisting of hamburger. He won against yet ANOTHER beast! I am honoured to know this amazing spirit and to be able to call him my husband. Congratulations, Devon. You are the number one arwrestler in the world! And to anyone who thinks otherwise, shut your effing mouth. I'm so sick of the disrespect. Honestly...great job Tim...you scared me...but better job Devon. Hold your head high and be as proud of your accomplishments as I am. Don't let jealous, pathetic, insulting people with far too much time on their hands take anything away from what you've achieved. You deserve the title. You inspire me to push myself to ever higher limits...thank you for all you are. I love you.

Had an awesome time aswell.
Tim Bresnan - Wow. everytime i feel this guy he is stronger and stronger. not only that, but a better armwrestler and more complete. A real cool dude and it was an honor to have a great fight with him. If he continues to improve at this rate the next time it happens (im sure it will) he may blow me out. Tim has in my opinion the strongest wrist and rotation combination that i have felt. it reminded me a little of when Taras dominated me in 2006. I tried several different ways to get on his hand with zero sucsess as is likely evident haha.
This fight went to the wall and to me that is the most gratifing place in life to be. I know that some will be upset that some matches went to fouls, but i do believe that it was extremely well officiated and i checked the tape, i think they called it right. I have also heard some say that i am too light, and i will say that yes i am kind light, but i feel stronger in places than i have ever felt and i am healthy and to me that is very important. I also as in the past hear people talk about what if it was a double elimination tournamet or 3 of 5. i will just say that the format will very much dictate strategy.
Gigantic respect to Tim Bresnan. It doesn't get any closer in my mind, i would love to do it again, and i worry about any guy who thinks they can take your hand. Tim Bresnan you are the mother F-N Man!
