Religious affiliation of the candidates... Who most aligns with YOUR belief system and why?
Romney has said "A person should not be elected because of his faith nor should he be rejected"
I couldn't disagree more with that statement. Ones religion is the foundation and the core of who they are and what they believe.
Mitt Romney - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS).
Ron Paul - Baptist
Rick Santorum - Catholic
Newt Gingrich - Catholic
Rick Perry - Methodist (said to drop out this week)

Non issue for me.
Bill Clinton campaigned under the description of being a Christian. I want to say Methodist. I hate to think anyone voted for him based on that line of baloney.
Obama claims to be a Christian. His favorite book in the New Testament? Job. Yes, he said that.
Jimmy Carter by all accounts actually is a Christian. Until three years ago he was the worst President in history.
Jerry Falwell ran for president. I would not have voted for him.
Ditto Pat Robertson.
While I believe that a person's faith can give them a strong moral foundation, it has little to do with leadership or political effectiveness.
I would greatly prefer a politician who had enough integrity that he admitted to being agnostic over one more who pretended to be religious in order to pander to people who will only vote for someone who thinks just like they do.

I think faith IS an issue, but not the majority decision. A Presidents faith is a key but not the turning point. Ryan, you are right about the foundation. John, you are right about the "history" of Presidential Christians. It's tough to find a Christian that is actually a Christian. With that said, I want a President with conviction. Republicans AND Democrats alike, have stated that of Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that I agree with spiritually AND does not exploit his faith ie "use the lords name in vain"

Just because one claims to be Christian doesn't mean they are.
But... One who claims to be a satanist is certainly not a Christian.
The faith that a man claims matters whether he truly follows that faith or not.
You wouldn't knowingly vote for a man who openly claims to be a satanist. So it absolutely is a factor in any election. Or it should be in the life of a christian voter.

I won't vote for someone who can use their faith to justify a decision in the oval office that logic couldn't justify.
That scares me.
Many presidents use religion to get votes...
IMO Religion/Spirituality is a very personal thing.

Having said that...
I don't have the same convictions as a catholic. But i do acknowledge the Catholics semi-christ centeredness. (yeah... I may get scalded for that comment....again)
So I would vote for a catholic. I have.
I WILL NOT vote for a mormon. I do not believe core Mormon doctrines are christ centered. I do not see Mormonism as a Christian religion at all!!
I will not vote for any man who's spiritual foundation that he AT LEAST CLAIMS... Is not at all similar or related to mine.
I will not vote for a Muslim. And I don't blame muslims if they choose not to vote for a Christian in a predominately Muslim country.
I believe we should all vote for who best represents us as an individual.
Mitt Romney will not get my vote even if he does get the nomination.

I didn't vote for Romney in the primary. However, even though he may not be a mainstream christian, its a whole lot better than Obamas REAL beliefs. He refers to the Coran as "the holy coran". The current administration claims to side with women yet they had Egypt's muslim brotherhood visit the Whitehouse recently in an attempt to stall their aggression toward Israel. We know what they think of women. We need a defeat this fall no matter what!
