In a perfect world? Paul.
Now that Paul is no longer campaigning in open states, I have no idea what his plans are. He'll go to the convention with the non-bound delegates that he has but it's over for Paul. Flame away, but that's the reality.
Is he the best guy for the job? Yes. Did he run a good campaign? Not even close. I'm afraid that, once again, Ron Paul failed to control his message and he let his foes define him. Great man, great ideas, lousy campaigner.

Come on guys. It's getting silly. I like Dr Paul too, but it's over. It's way over. It's been over for a while. I'll look for and old post from about a year ago explaining why and re-post later.

For the record, I love Tea! But, just to clarify regarding Romney and to link it to my earlier post about Dr. Paul, it's going to take a star (or someone who looks and sounds like a star) to beat Obama. So far, Romney looks like the only person that can stand on a debate stage, toe to toe with Obama, and look and sound more presidential, more intelligent, and yes nicer than Obama. And that.... is how you get the young people, soccer moms, and how elections are won recently. There is a reason why Goldwater didn't win, Dr. Paul, hasn't won, but Clinton did win two terms: star power. I thought Clinton was a disgrace, but most people don't even care how conservative a republican is, or how liberal a democrat is, they barely follow politics. They just vote for the guy that connects with them. That's why JFK, Reagan, and Clinton were so electable and so popular. (Don't know what JFK really ever did, but speak well and sound presidential). You gotta start somewhere.

The primaries aren't over. The nomination is set until August. Anything can happen and Paul has ran an EXCELLENT campaign considering his opposition.

I'm still hoping for that miracle. I really believe Paul didn't expect to get the nomination from the start, but wanted to relay his message as long as he could. He ran a MUCH better campaign than he did 4 years ago but, without positive/correct media coverage, it's inevitable. Sad thing is, I really don't think Romney has a chance to beat Obummer. There is hardly anything positive about this guy other than against Obama. He's just another "rich white guy". Being Mormon is a huge issue to sway voters especially that Mormons aren't too fond of blacks. So, with little to no black support (Paul had/has much more), and the fact that he's garbage but with a less charismatic character in which Obama sweeps the floor with. I expect another 4 years of you know who, and an uprising by the end of 2016.

I agree that the movement toward actual Conservatism is not over. But it's over for Ron Paul's chances to be elected President.
Honestly, I think Ron Paul will have a bigger impact on history for helping to advance the cause of liberty than people give him credit for. People like to denigrate the TEA party, but it is exactly the people who support Conservatism who have had the major impact in getting dead weight thrown out of congress for the last two cycles. The Democrats really are not understanding that the shellacking they have taken over the last two cycles is just getting warmed up. The RNC is not getting it, either.
I predict Mitt Romney will get through and win the Presidency, not because of his own greatness but due to the enormous 'anybody but Obama' feeling, just the way Obama won due to 'anybody but Bush'. But if I'm correct, the upswell of support among Americans to get back to Constitutional governance will threaten any re-election hopes Romney has. He will either move toward Constitutionalism or he will likely face a primary challenger in 2016. I see the groundwork being laid for Rand Paul and I think he does not suffer from the "kook" image his Dad can't shake.
It looks as though Romney might be in front of this. The talk is he has approached Paul Ryan for VP. I like Paul Ryan, but if Romney turns into Clinton II then Ryan has no chance of running for President since VPs generally don't challenge the sitting President in a primary.
I still say it's all about Congress. If you have decent people in the House and Senate, you can almost have any bozo in the White House and the Congress will keep him in check. The caveat being that such a bozo can still stack the Supreme Court.
Ron Paul has done the job. He has moved the cause for liberty forward and the dialogue has changed among everyday voters. I hear very little 'single issue' talk anymore even from people who are not political wonks.
