i would definately Vote for a "semi Hook start" over straps even. NOT deep where wrist are touching. You can still top roll hook sweep from there , but that wasnt the poll

Depending on the time of year it is, I'd come. I had my first strap matches 2 weeks ago and had great success. prefer the straps.

Guy: I directed it to you, because you wanted to hear from those who voted "NO".

I voted No, I was the #7 no vote.
My reasons. I think you folks who suggest: Hook starts Strap starts Ref grip starts and that asinine intentional foul off the back of the pad crap are a bunch of incompetent, ignorant, 1 dimensional, non learning, non innovating, public school educated, flatulent butt heads.
If you have a weakness, improve it, don't outlaw it. If you want to save time at a tournament, run the novice and kids classes on a separate day, or preferably not at all.
You dunderheads need to come to the realization that there are too many rules in arm wrestling. The entire sport is wobbling under the weight of oppressive over legislation. We need to eliminate some rules. Then the clever and ambitious will defeat the powerful, just like America did 220 230 years ago.
As an Engineer, I've never been that good at math...

As an Engineer, I've never been that good at math...Well that's your opinion, Todd and we all know what they say about opinions, and believe me as of lately, you've been acting like a real big one!!!!!!! It is just a poll to see if there was an interest, if you want to debate it, fine, but don't knock what others are trying to do for the sport. I haven't seen you do anything other than complain and talk alot of crap that you have and never will back up. Great, you're a good armwrestler, whoopee!!!!!!! That and two bucks will get you a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donut's and that is about as far as it will get you. Why don't you try running an event with only the rules you like and see how it goes, then you can come on here and give your opinion because until then you are just flapping your lips with alot of garbage opinions that we have heard before.

Todd you seem to contradict yourself here, look at the rules you could eliminate by starting in the strap, in my position this has nothing to do with a pullers weaknesses, it is simply about making this sport more legitimate and viable by eliminating a bunch of little kid playground crap.
Now what are the worst aspects of this sport, to me it is all of the BS in the set up, people not willing to grip up, BS subjective rules that call for discretionary calls from a ref, this sport will continue to struggle under the weight of this nonsense until some things change, akin to what you indicated the longer this sport exists as it is, the worse these subjective rules are going to get, just as has happened in previous decades.. more creative and under achieving athletes will continue to figure out how not to lose as opposed to how to win.
Do you wonder why there is really no fan base beyond the pullers families, it is simple, nobody likes to watch all of the set up drama, the refs grip, the early starts, the foul calls, a slip, the reset in the strap with a refs grip, more fouls and restarts only to have the match end on who was willing to take a loss on fouls rather than get pinned. I love this sport and I cannot stomach watching this childish crap.
So I agree with part of what you are saying eliminate rules, (again look how many nonsense rules and situations you can eliminate with a strap start), and find some improvements to start making pullers be the athletes the allege themselves to be, pony up and pin their man fair and square rather than this chicken sh!t approach of running the gambit of every conceivable call, stall, foul and evasion you can just not to lose, if we keep allowing this to exist and progress, we will be no further along another 50 years from now.

Simon,
what would be eliminated by starting with strap, and what other rules you would like to eliminate in current rules?

I love this sport and I cannot stomach watching this childish crap. set up will happen in the strap too,the early start will happen in strap too, foul calls will happen in strap too.but there are many matches that end without strap too.and when you look at it from this point of wiew then starting with strap on can be considered as time losing too. " is it tight enough?","it is too tight","no it needs to be tighter".also i have seen many matches in the strap that strap needed to take it out after a foul call and put it back again. starting in strap is fine with me but i dont think it will eliminate many things from the rules.i know that it will unable some of the tecniques that can be used without strap but from my side i like strap better.but again who cares about what i like if there are ppl who likes to armwrestle without strap. i think when we find some of the rules unnecessary we need to say why they are unnecessary instead of saying it is boring or complaining without explaining exactly what is wrong with them. there are some pullers who prefer to armwrestle without strap and till someone slips apart from their hands without fouling they have right to armwrestle without strap.

Well said... no need to re-invent the wheel. No one is trying to re-invent anything, we are just looking at ways to maybe spark some more interest in the sport. What is wrong with all of you nay sayers?

Certainly you can still play in the strap but not as much because if it is done properly you are smashed together.
By starting in the strap you bypass the intentionally not getting a grip call.
You bypass a lot of the games played while getting a grip because you have so little room to move, the amount you can is limited and there for less time consuming to deal with, I would bet there will be fewer refs grips this way.
You bypass the slip and a restart.
You bypass the intentional slip and a restart on either end of the table
You bypass the slip in a losing position (a tough subjective call as is the reality of an intentional slip)
You bypass horrible hand fighting matches where you are just waiting for or you get stopped before a slip.
You bypass the guys that just let go on the go.
Also by all accounts the strap creates the truest test of which puller is better that day, everyone has seen someone make a match out of it free handed as they do no more than try to escape or let go, then in turn when they get the strap that guy trying to let go gets slammed.
I seem to recall a Swiss guy you pulled Engin where exactly that happened.
