I just got off the phone with Terry and she is very upset and shocked (like everyone im sure). This was all so sudden... she said he had been doing great getting ready to pull next week and have his surgerys done.
My heart is with the Dean's.. Cleve was like family to us... and he will be greatly missed...
He was a wonderful man on an off the table... Our prayers are with all if you...

Horrible News. Cleave Dean was an Armwrestling Icon and To Mention a Competitive Participant In "The Worlds Strongest Man Competition" He will be missed.
MR. Derenk ....perhaps you can send that check to his family towards cost of services, if of course if you did not send it to him yet.
In addition if some one can post his address so I can contribute and so can other pullers. God Bless You Cleave. R.I.P. as you will be able to walk faster than anybody here on Earth and never have to use those crutches again.

Never a good thing to hear news like this. He was a great guy and took about an hour out of his time at battle of the giants in Georgia my rookie year to sit and teach me a few things. Sad to hear losses like this but I'm sure many of y'all will agree he is in a much better place now. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

This is very sad news indeed today. This is a huge loss for the sport. He was a true Giant in every sense. We will miss you Cleve!

I was very sad to hear this news. I was definitely looking forward to meeting him (Armwrestling Legend) in 2 weeks. Max Moore has already spoken with Cleve's family and they have given their approval to honor Cleve Dean at the upcoming Southeast Regionals on May 21st. The T-Shirts will feature his picture on the back. I am working on having a video tribute to show before the tournament. There will be more information once I've had a chance to touch base with the other promoters. For those of you who didn't know, Cleve was training for a comeback at this tournament.

Cleve was a true gentleman and a legend in the sport of arm wrestling. His name will be going down in the books of history. Every time I talked with that giant man I was reminded of what kindnesses is and how we should be to all men. My heart and prayers go out to his family and to the thousands around the world who knew him. I write these things with a heavy heart and yet with a joyful heart knowing that Cleve has been released from all his sufferings and pains and is now with the LORD. Never to suffer again the pains of this world and to live a perfect peace forever with the people of God. I will miss talking to my friend and colleague, but look forward to the day that we will be brothers forever in the LORD.

Cleve, When we were in Japan at the Worlds you told me that I would always be welcome to break bread at your table, and that we would be brothers not only in arms but most of all in Christ. In closing Cleve, I want you to know that you were loved and respected on this earth by the footsteps you left behind for mankind to follow. May a gentel giant "REST IN PEACE" until we meet again. God bless the Dean family. "Shaky"

I am truly very upset on hearing this sad news.
Cleve Dean was an Armwrestling Icon, a genuine Legend in our sport and more importantly he was an absolutely lovely, friendly kind person.
I feel the same way as when I learned that Bert Whitfield had passed as the two Gentlemen were very similar in many ways. Both were tremendous exponents of the Sport and extremely genuine men.
My thoughts & those of the British Armwrestling community are with Cleve's Family at this sad time
With Deepest Sympathy
Neil
