I'll never forget meeting Mr. Dean at Battle of the Giants a few years back, very kind man and very eager to share his knowledge with everyone. I also saw something that day that amazed me even to this day, he was in a wheelchair that day and went up to the table with Dave Randall, from his wheelchair, he held Dave's arm with Dave standing. I knew it was the real deal, because Dave's face was turning red from forcing! Amazing man, amazing strength. Rest in peace Mr. Dean.

I've never even met a real puller and have just followed the sport through the internet for the last 5 years, and even I feel really sad about Mr. Dean's death. I can say that through the many videos of him I've seen (interviews and the like), and posts on this forum, he definitely seemed to be a great person, and it always saddened me to see him write about his hip surgeries and all that stuff. Wasn't he trying to raise money for a friend in need only about a week ago? May he rest in peace! And I agree with whoever it was, a few pages back, who said it's a shame the sport isn't bigger because not many will know he passed. Cleve was definitely worth a few minutes on ESPN and all other major sports networks that should've informed of his death and show a highlight reel of his career or something. I hope AW grows to this point one day. Again may he rest in peace.

It is very shocking and sad to hear this. Cleve Dean was more than an arm wrestling legend - and perhaps greatest super heavyweight of his time - but easily one of the most recognizable arm wrestlers on the planet.
While I have never met Cleve, those who have professed an overwhelming admiration for not only his tenacity and competitive zeal, but his humility, kindness and willingness to help others.
Deepest condolences to family and friends and may he rest in peace.
