Sorry Richard, time to move up brother imo! You'll either take your lumps & get better or not... the challenge will bring out the best in YOU!! Good luck bud! No need for saying sorry! I think this is all blown out of proportion. I have been looking forward to moving up to opens for a while. Just wanted another novice. But I everyone thinks I'm to good for novice so I'm over it! Thanks for the luck. Ill need it! I think it's a good move Richard. I'm sure you'll be happier that you did this and didn't wait. All the best to you.

jeff knows more about who i pulled then i do.. and thats why i will never host a tourney of my own. jeff your on top of it.and thanks for the input everyone. no hard feelings here. i didnt aim on this being such a in depth topic mr. janes. and next question is should i even come pull opens since the class is 199+ i know alot of 198 and lower guys that beat the crap out of me. but since i weigh so much is that going to be a problem too? You should absolutely pull opens and take advantage of one of the rare tournaments where you're in opens with +199, vs. +243.

How many events as a novice should a rookie do before moving up to the open?

How many events as a novice should a rookie do before moving up to the open? That real depends on how fast you progress and where your starting point was, a good rule of thumb is if you are dominating the class get out of it. And whenever possible pull novice and open and masters or amateur if they have those, as much matches under your belt as possible, each one Will make you better.

I will say.....looking back....that although i didnt have my wins. I stayed too long in the novice. I started in 98's. After winning the 98 novice points race i shoulda moved up. Instead i put on 15lbs and pulled 199+ for another 9 months. I did get more table time cuz i was winning matches, but then when i was ready i was 230 and it was hard as crap to get back to 198 for me. Pulled 242 open and 220 open for another 9 months without winning a match. Finally buckled down and made 198 again and won my first open matches against taggart and barnett. When u think ur not ready but can pull safely and know HOW to armwrestle, it would prob speed your progress by going ahead and pulling opens, imo

As the director of some tournaments in Maine, theres no way an athlete of this caliber would be allowed to pull my novice division. It's just not right. Novice classes should build up the sport--it should not be for trophy collectors.

But I'm really not out for trophies and wins. Just trying to get better at the sport. I see now what others see in me. Thanks for the confidence everyone. I'll start pulling open right. But to all the guys that's out there just for easy wins in novice classes, ain't nobody got time fo dat! But thanks for all the helpful input. I hope to be a competitive open puller!
