I just wanted to put something out there concerning weight classes! Although the Superstar Showdowns are at 198 and 165 this year, There will be a Great Regular tournament also. I used the weight classes from AAA last year and had 102 Entrants, This year i thought i would find out in General What classes the pullers would like to see used! Thanks for your "Best of the Best" input on the showdown.. Sincerely Sol

I like the even every 10 kilo version, 70, 80 90, etc it just makes more sense, (though the big jump to 242 from 199 has been hotly debated in the past.)

The IAF uses different weights for big and small events. We have standard weights that the meet directors choose for their events. 0-154, 155-176, 177-198, 199-220, 221-242, 243-UP right hand open. 0-154, 155-176, 177-198, 199-UP novice. 0-165, 166-198,199-UP left hand 0-121, 122-143, 144-UP women.

We have run events with both weight divisions, and I have to say that I much prefer the "old" divisions we worked with. If you don't want to run all the men's classes, it's a tough call when combining classes. I still think that there needs to be a division above the 242 or 231... perhaps a 275 and above. That's such a HUGE jump from 242 to unlimited... a lot of weight for some guys to give up when they are like 260... vs. a guy weighing 300+. Kind of like when the ladies' division is a 143 or 147 and above or even a 176 and above. Many times the ladies are giving up 100+ lbs.... not very often the guys give up 100+ lbs.! There have been many, many events in my 14 years of competing that I have easily given up 100 lbs. (not to mention the height difference). It definitely makes me appreciate when I can fall into a class and not give up the huge weight difference. Just my 2 cents...

Simon..How do you break the KILO's down to actual weight? Bill, your classes are very much like the Petaluma days and like the current USAA. now. Yes there usually is a good jump to the 242's.. I kinda like the 199-220...

Hi Elaine..yes there is a big jump to the supers. But how many would there be in a 275plus class... Matt, Travis, Alexey all are under..I think. Who in the circuit now weighs say over Three hundred. In that case someone weighing 243 would be giving away 100 pounds!

I really Like AAA weights because I weigh 205 in USA I can either diet to 198 which I can do , but sucks. Or I can give up 15lbs and pull 220 at a decent disadvantage. even worse when they make it 199-242 that is digustingly unfair to all the guys 199-220. I like AAA becuse I am 205 and limit is 209 so it is perfect for me I can adjust to the 220 if I have no choice , but the 199-242 crap is just plain sh**y . I almost did not want to go to vegas except I was allready going to drop the weight to 198 for Can Am Christopher Myers

Sol, I suppose I'm thinking say, on the world level where there are these absolutely HUGE guys that are like 7'10" and 350, then at the bottom of the class would be 250lbs and 6'... (a little exaduration(can't spell) on the height) but ... still this is what I've seen in the past. Maybe now all these big guys have dieted down to 250 or so and everyone is under 300 lbs... I don't know... just talking off the top of my head. If Travis is now the average size of those in the "unlimited" class, then I suppose there isn't a problem. Christopher, I do see what you're saying about the 199-242 class. That IS a lot of weight to give up in that class, especially because of the popularity of that class. But... I'm just a girl, so what do I know anyway??

Steven, the classes that the USA uses now are the ones that the AAA did use until I think 2000. At that time, the WAF wanted to reduce the number of classes and those are what they came up with, so the AAA adopted them... politics?.................... um...................probably

I like 209 231, 255 and Over
2nd I like 198 220 242 265 and over
I do think 255 is better than 265
Though Travis thinks over 200 you should be a heavy weight. I dont agree but thought I would throw that in

If there ever was a standardize weight class, Bill’s weight class is by far the best, every 20 pounds (Rt hand) !!! Of course the more classes the bigger expense, that’s a major factor why you’ll see a big spread between classes.
