So will anyone train him up out in Cali, or is this dude totally done with AW now? Chuck has been calling me almost everyday. I am going to train with him starting this Saturday. I told him before he went down to pull at the UAL that we needed to hook up so we could see where he was at for real, but he wanted to save his arm & now he regrets not hooking up. He thinks he can be a elite puller & warts to learn. He said he was humbled & he needed that experience & now it is game on. SO we will see how far we can take him. He is going to Portland on the 25th of this month so i am just going to show him some technique for this one & not pull to hard to save his arm. Sounds like this guy has exactly the right attitude to be great in this sport. It's very cool that you are willing to train this guy, Jacob.

Spoto !!... We had a great group in Vegas..... I'd kill to train with them again..... Me , lenny , constantino and Danielle Miley all won unifieds that year I was there.... And I bet Eric would have too had he made it.
Eric is one of those guys.... A real freak I learned a lot from him in the strength and nutrition world.... He's an incredible athlete overall

It's all good... I really like Luke.... Great puller, real nice guy.... Plus I have this caption in my mind of him doing the cha cha slide with a couple fatties after rotn when we went out.... Cmon, that's my kind of people right there !! I felt bad for the heat chuck took.... Imagine feeling like he did before the event, then getting beat like he did and all the cheers and I told you so against him.... He had to be in a sh;TTY spot... He ponied up the money and showed..... Didn't even perform that bad.... I give him credit How many guys never even put their arm up for fear of losing.... The fact that he stepped up and was humble afterwards says something about him THAT is Bang on the Money as far as I am concerned Rob. I like the Lad, he really didn't know what he was walking into BUT most importantly the Man came to Armwrestle and genuinely tried to Throwdown. That attitude coupled with his humility in the aftermath should be applauded.......at least according to my script. As for the Thread / Topic overall...... When considered carefully and fully in a way both RVJ and the "No Way" Krew...are justified in their beliefs. Are there FREAKS OUT THERE ?...WITHOUT QUESTION, YES.The Top Athletes in our Sport today (almost to a Man) are representative of them.........just trained versions. Can a Gym Strong FREAK compete with a Pro !? THE TRUTH IS that they are FAR MORE LIKELY to be able to compete with Two distinct Pro Athlete Groupings : 1.) The more ONE DIMENSIONAL POWER STYLED ATHLETES (Deep Hookers & Pressers) ie. athletes whose approach to the Sport is less refinement & more Brutal Top End as well as 2.) Those athletes who are relatively technically proficient YET whom have been reliant on that facet in order to achieve their success in the Sport (ie. athletes whom are representative of an averagely strong individual who has become very Technically sound through practice and table time). THESE TWO GROUPS of Pro are DEFINATELY at ever present Risk from the FREAK FACTOR individuals whom walk in the Shadows. WHEN THE STREET FREAK'S CHANCES OF SUCCESS FALL DRAMATICALLY HOWEVER IS WHEN THEY ENCOUNTER THE LEVEL OF ATHLETE WHO IS COMPLETE IN TERMS OF THEIR TECHNICAL PROWESS AT THE TABLE AND THEIR INHERENT GENETIC STRENGTH..........THERE ARE FEWER OF THOSE ATHLETES ABOUT, SURE..........BUT THEY WON'T LOSE TO BACK STREET HERO'S !!!SO IT'S BACK TO THAT AGE OLD QUESTION REALLY : Q.) IS THE SPORT OF ARMWRESTLING ABOUT STRENGTH OR TECHNIQUE......!!? WELL.....WHAT IS THE ANSWER !!!? A.) SUCCESS IN ARMWRESTLING IS DEPENDANT ON HAVING ENOUGH STRENGTH TO MAKE YOUR TECHNIQUE EFFECTIVE ON YOUR OPPONENT............END OF !!!That said therefore, the Athlete whom is both STRONG enough & TECHNICALLY VERSATILE enough, WILL always find a way around "THE STREET FREAK" who may indeed be able to defeat experienced athletes with lesser degree's of one or both of these key elements Cheers Neil

Spoto is a fkn FREAK, i think he could just appear on the A.W. scene and beat almost everybody.... crazy strong. But, i think he now can't really be called a non - armwrestler, just a casual one. I really want him to nail his record so he comes to our sport. INSANE power... I have met some freaks aswell, we train on the beach sometimes in the summer.. i still remember this guy Sunny - a big 265 pound russian guy. Said he used to do alot of Karate. Within MINUTES he was giving me a very hard time. Now always remember.. the hardest things to learn are the subtle things that happen before the ref says go, and knowing when you are being fkd over, this is where the new guy often looses.

Great posts Neil and Devon You said it perfect
And devon made a point about spoto...The thing about spoto is he doesn't really compete, but he did train at least once a week with experienced armwrestlers and do AW specific workouts during the week. In a training manner... He might have been the most dedicated guy on our team. He knew the sport and had a solid idea of toprolling, hooking, press, set up, elbow movement.... He was well rounded.... Far from a first timer.

Rob or Devon, do you know when he's going to try Mendelson's 715?
Rob, I'm sure he's got unbelievable power in most/every direction, but as a grip freak yourself, did you find any give through his hand? Or does he specifically find time to train aspects of grip work when he's not lifting aircraft carriers and the like

He has a strong hand.... And worked on his hand strength as part of his training Like everyone else, there are angles and spots weaker than others.... But it would take good power to make it effective.
