Born in the heat of the desert My mother died giving me life Deprived of the love of a father Blamed for the loss of his wife You know lord I've been in a prison For something that I never done It's been one hill after another I've climbed them all one by one before we get too far away, who was this one?! You Gave me a Mountain by Elvis! Wasn't an Elvis fan but this is one of the few that I did like.

I didn't know there was a woman alive who wasn't an Elvis fan?! But you always knew I was different I can count on one hand the number of Elvis songs I liked. But, Elvis is really not dead - he's alive and well in Israel! When we were in Israel in 91 for world, everywhere you went - literally everywhere - Elvis was being piped in over the speakers. Airport, restaurants, markets, etc. It was HORRIBLE!!!!!!

I used to spend my nights out in a barroom Liquor was the only love I'd known But you rescued me from reachin' for the bottom, baby And you brought me back from being too far gone. And you're as smooth as tennessee whiskey You're as sweet as strawberry wine You're as warm as a glass of brandy And I stay stoned on your love all the time

Tennessee Whiskey - I know it as a George Jones song, but I know others have recorded it, too.

I don't know why I keep on believing you need me When you've proved so many times it ain't true And I can't find one good reason for staying Maybe my leaving would be the best for you
But these rose colored glasses that I'm looking through Show only the beauty, because they hide all the truth
And they let me hold onto the good times, the good lines- The ones I used to hear when I held you And they keep me from feeling so cheated, defeated When reflections in your eyes show me a fool

John Conlee - Rose Colored Glasses, one of my favorites.
Another really good one he does is Backside of Thirty, also Common Man and I'm Busted. They're all good.

Not to be a know it all, but it was actually a Marty Robbins song redone by The King. Of course I like his version better.

Somewhere there should be for all the world to see A statue of a fool made of stone The image of a man who let love slip through his hands And then just let him stand there all alone
And there on his face a gold tear should be placed To honor the million tears he's cried And the hurt in his eyes would show so everyone would know That concealed is a broken heart inside
So build a statue and Lord build it high so that all can see Then inscribe the world's greatest fool and name it after me

Took my family away from my Carolina home Had dreams about the West and started to roam Six long months on a dust covered trail They say heaven's at the end but so far it's been hell And there's fire on the mountain, lightning in the air Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there
We were digging and sifting from five to five Selling everything we found just to stay alive Gold flowed free like the whiskey in the bars Sinning was the big thing, lord and Satan was his star And there's fire on the mountain, lightning in the air Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

The warden led a prisoner down the hallway to his doom And I stood up to say goodbye like all the rest And I heard him tell the warden, just before he reached my cell Let my guitar-playing friend do my request
Let him sing me back home with a song I used to hear Make my old memories come alive And take me away and turn back the years Sing me back home before I die
