A "legend" in arm wrestling is someone who has competed and won in major, sanctioned matches over a long period of time. There are only three men in the sport who I believe have met these qualifications: John Bzrenk, Allen Fisher and Steve Stanaway. Each of these men has been in the sport for at least 25 years and has won major, sanctioned arm wrestling contests during that time period. If you examine their records, you will find that Stanaway has met the criteria for the longest period: 1968-2010. JMHO. Jimmyvan

Also sad to see the amount of armwrestlers from the "good ole days" that aren't listed due to the majority of people not being around then. Way too much emphasis being placed on "world titles", IMO. Too many GREATS around before world even started, not to mention that for many, many years, the world event was only attended by a very small handful of countries and competitors. Just a thought................Baseball Hall of Fame ~ 289 inductees (202 players) ~ 73 years of inducting ~~~~~~~~~ The listings here for armwrestlers is too long. The list should start with the first competitors from years ago. Then, move forward. IMO seriously if we start listing greats then there are more than 50 pullers in that category. Guy Lasorsa,Dave Hicks,Michael Selerais,Chad Silvers ... i mean if i seriously think about it then i could list 100 pullers from different categories.i believe that "GREATS" and "LEGENDS" can be categorised even by weight classes such as light weight-middle weight and heavyweight. anyone who has been one of the best deserves to be called amongst "GREAT". . i agree that the GREATS list should be much more than what is mentioned.i think instead of 50 greats there should be an unlimited "HALL OF FAME" list.forcing the list with 50 names is unfair to other greats.i sure know that there has been more than 50 great names. about the World titles... football was played first in England but none of British teams claimed to have World titles.World Cup started with 1930 when the other countries participated to have chance to win. armwrestling is a very old sport and has been performed all over the world for centuries.there has been competetions as well but they did not give world titles away. one can believe in winning world titles by beating the people around him but is that title recognised by the " WORLD" that we discuss about. until the sport is established in other countries and an internationally recognised federation organizes a World Championships, the world titles will not be recognised by the majority of the world. you can say "it was not their fault that there was no WAF around" then someone else may say "it was not the fault of many who had iron wrists in the history if there was no World championships around". if there was no organised World Championships which was recognised by the World then there was no world title except self given ones. say that they were the best ones in USA,you may think that they were the best ones in the world as well but how can you give world titles by opinions when other countries had no idea about these events. wrestling has been a sport in my country for centuries and it is an organised sport for centuries.this championships was held in my country for every year since 1346; kirkpinar.org/en/kirkpinar but i have never heard of the winners being declared as the World Champion, not in the past not today.

Yukon Jacks,Over the Top etc were international event but you pull the same guys to win national title then you pull the same guys the win world title.what is the difference? the name that you create for your event? could World titles be given only in USA before the international events started or the other countries had chance to give world titles by beating their countryman,as well? i know that in my country there had been tournaments in 1970s so they were not world titles because they did not extreme by calling them world championships?
come on guys,i know this is an American board and people dont like these opinions but there is a HUGE world outside of US borders.it is always healthier to have objective opinion.it has nothing to do with US,pullers such as John,Ron,Cleve,Cobra,Patton an some others are the American pullers who are accepted as Legends all around the world.you are using the title "WORLD" and you should look for recognition by the "WORLD".
no doubt there was GREAT US pullers before our times but i seriously believe that there were some incredibly strong armrestlers all around the world.how great they were became known when the wold level competetions started.
i just talked with Niyazi Kurt who is 2 x WAF and 2 x EAF champion.he said in 1970s there has been held a big championships in Turkey every year and there were very strong armwrestlers.one of them is now about 60 years old and still pulls in disabled class in WAF and EAF.he has way too many WAF and EAF titles to remember in Masters and Disabled classes.i just can not imagine how strong he was 35-40 years ago when there was no WAF championships around.he is 60 years old and still can do 1 arm pull ups weighing near 80kg.he has placed 4. place in WAF senior class as well.ask Alper how strong Nurettin Yuksel is even as an old man.
i tell you one more story,it was 1998 Turkish nationals and we saw an old man who was about 60 years old.he gave trouble to Niyazi Kurt who won the WAF 2 months later in Egypt over Kote (Voevoda's trainer),Zoloev Kazbek and many other greats. Alper Cosar took 6. in same WAF class.Alper will know better but what i remember is Alper hardly beat this old man at the nationals.i believe this old man was much stronger when he was younger.my point is that those old US greats were not the only greats in the world in their times.

Craig's right was his better arm but his left was very good as well ,enough to win nats in 2005; Men’s Left 166-176: 1-Craig Tullier 2-Chris Chandler 3-Ron Klemba 4-John Parton 5-Tony Kitowski 6-Noah Sanders
