ryan...let me clarify what I meant because it wasn't moronic.
I don't watch hockey...at all. Never have watched one game. But I do watch sports news and EVERY TIME they show a highlight is San Diego of a game. It always includes a punch being thrown. This is not a joke. I shouldn't have said brawl. But there is always some fisticuffs and the first thing that I observe is the fact that the refs stand there and wait for it to happen...they don't jump in for certain period of time...I don't know what it is but it is obvious that they let them exchange blows for twenty seconds or something before they step in. It is the strangest thing I have seen and that makes it apparent that they must want it to happen. So in this example...I think that is rediculously worse than what we are talking about.
Comparing Travis...Tom exchange to wrecking the sport.
to
exchanging blows on the nightly news with hockey.
for the record it may only be every time>>I am watching>> the news but for a guy who doesn't watch hockey...this is the only thing I know about the sport..is the fact that guys exchange blows and the refs let it happen.

Yeah... next time someone mouths you off just let them have it... then face the consequences for that one second of gratification. I work with youth in jail and talk to them every day about different ways to handle anger / aggression. A few of them are missing their entire youth because they were in a fight and killed someone without intending to. There was intention to hurt, but not take a life. Justin be happy with who you are.
Yes Grippler... I trained and fought... in MMA as a sport. Quite a rush but also against another athlete who knew what he was getting himself into.
Gary... then the blame falls on your local news and the footage they choose to show. Those refs are there to ref a game not a fight. They stand back and let them tire themselves out and there are always consequences. Its a terrible comparison anyways... in my opinion.

Ryan i get your point...but i am only humain and i can't help the way i feel...can i controle my action's..yes! BUT TIME AND PLACE DICTATES EVERYTHING but you avoided my point since you have fought and armwrestled are they emotional ties to the two that can be scured??? i know you said fighting was a rush yes....But not likearmwrestling?? men are competitive by nature and pridefulf. it might be our biggest flaw but one of our most driving forces.. again fighting in armwrestling is wrong!!!! but i can see why it happens!

The tie between the two sports is adrenaline. Just like I feel adrenaline in powerlifting, strongman, etc. All competitive sports share this common bond, in particular, individual sports like the ones I listed, MMA, boxing, track, etc. It is intensified if the sport pits one man against another unlike powerlifting where it is man against inanimate resistance.
I have never seen a fight as a result of armwrestling. Heated moments... but that is as far as it went.

Ryan: WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!
Grippler, By your "comments" and "trying' to get a comparison between "fighting" and armwrestling, I think you're in the wrong "sport".
Go fight and be a "toughguy"........ in a ring!
I too, have been reading ( why I don't know) this ASSINE thread.
P-O was right, it WAS funED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was Tom drinking? YES!..Started before 1pm........Side note:...In Jan Tom came to Ct and pulled Marcio.....There was 1 stipulation I AND Marcio had..Tom was NOT allowed to drink OR I would THROW HIM OUT!!!!!!!!...He promised he wouldn't, and he did NOT..
Tom is a GREAT kid and respectful, when he is NOT drinking!!!!!!!!!
NOW: Many on this thread claim to know these 2 guys, some do, MOST do NOT. "talking' to someone at a meet, doesn't make you KNOW someone....
I do NOT claim to know Tom...BUT I do KNOW Travis MORE then MOST in this " sport"...Travis with all his MOUTH is NOT a fighter, never was, never will be......
Tom crossed the line by touching Travis, THEN Travis "headbutted" Tom in the shoulder, AFTER being touched......
Tom did make it personal by what he said, which was wrong....But touching each other IS worse. You want to talk "smack" thats fine, DON'T TOUCH....
After, Travis was NOT happy, not with the talking, BUT with the touching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also thought the Refs did a great job all weekend, not to many bad calls, etc.....BUT They should have disqualified BOTH Tom and Travis right there, right out of the tournament!!!!!!!!!!!!

why is everything so personal...i'm just talking about the emotional side of armwrestling as it relates to fighting..talking about feelings and emotions isn't really a tough guy thing is it?

That had to do with the fact I haven't REALLY pulled HEALTHY since 95 and had Tom, Ryan Constantino, and Robert Bishop ( who beat me last yr at the AAAs) in my class....And I was pulling Travis next. And had NOTHING to do with being MAD or pissed off OR "READY TO THROWDOWN".......
Besides NO ONE WAS NEAR ME, besides Gary Roberts, who saw me do that..I was alone in a corner NOT out on a podium with EVERYONE watching me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.....And speaking of Travis..I and everyone else knows what he has done to me..This side of Travis STARTED with ME.....Do I get "stupid" at the table with him...NO!!!!!!!
Also, My Trashtalking to Travis on the board, in person, in texts, and voicemails to each other is ALL IN FUN!!!!!! AN ACT!!!!!!!!!!
You're the one "trying" to tie fighting and armwrestling together............
If it is made personal, thats due to YOUR posts.......

BTW: Rob Vigiant Jr........You got to LOVE his Raw emotion.....And is a hell of an armwrestler. He will go right at you, inside, outside, not afraid of anyone..Watch out 198s, and 220s..
But at times, he is starting to follow in his Mentors (Travis) footsteps............

well said I don't know the whole story with you and travis..again sorry for the remark i was not their i can only comment on what i saw on film!
and i stick with the fact that emotions are similar in armwrestling as they are in fighting maybe it's just me and i need to channel it diferently...but i'm not sure i want to it's the rush that drives me
High hooker for Life! hua!

Some times it can be a thin line between being ready for an armwrestling match and going too far.
I hope to NOT see any fights at armwrestling tournaments, as I have seen them in the past...when one comment leads to another and the next thing you know someone lost it. I remember once when two guys started swinging after a strap match and before the refs could get the strap off.
I bring this up...because it can happen....and one of the reasons I feel good sportsmanship should always be on our minds when we compete.
I personally would never start something and make a negative comment to a fellow armwrestler at the table...but if someone made one to me...even at my age and with the competitive juices flowing...I would most likely say something back...then we are off to the races. Who can out do who...and where does it stop. I may have made up my mind to never take a first swing at a tournament...but who knows what is going through the mind of the guy across the table?
I almost came close to blows with a guy 25 years ago...when he stated to reached across the table after I won the match....I got him to think twice when I said " I hope you fight better than you armwrestle!" But it could have gone the other way and pushed him even farther over the edge. I was ready and looking for that first swing and would have taken care of it...but most likely would have been kicked out of the place or ended up in jail. Not the kind of end for a day of armwrestling that I would have been looking forward to.
Food for thought.
