The Mike Gould Classic is always an awesome event. It's by far the highest caliber tournament in Canada. Some of the pullers who competed in the 2005 event include Vern Martel, Engin Terzi, Jacques Aubin, Mike Selearis, Troy Eaton, Crazy George, Devon Larratt, Simon Perron, Sylvain Perron, Earl Wilson, Travis Bagent, Mike Gould, Denis Dubreuil, Barb Zalepa, Tamara Mitts, Joyce King --- it's definitely a world class event. I suspect most of these individuals will also be at the 2006 event. Plus, I believe Ryan Espey, Ron Bath, and Christian Binnie are planning on coming. Of course, I'm sure Jerry Cadorette will mix things up in the heavyweight class. The energy at the 2005 event was amazing and the 2006 event looks like it will be through the roof! Placing in the top 5 in any of the pro classes will be quite an accomplishment. If you'd like a chance to pull many of Canada's top armwrestlers, this is the event at which to do it. The amateur classes are also usually quite competitive and there are always beautiful awards to be won. Best of all, Mike's giving out $20,000!!!

I plan to update them regularly -- at least after every major event.
No defined system is used to come up with the rankings. It's basically a process of sifting through all of the tournament results I can find and then making assumptions of where people should be ranked based on their performances. It has less to do with how often someone competes and more to do with who someone can beat whe he does compete.

I agree that Neil was better than Denis in March, however Denis' recent performances show that he should be ranked higher than him at this point in time. He's had some very long matches with Luke Reimer in October and he was untouchable at the Canadian championships and in Connecticut in November.

This tournament will be awesome! I'm looking forward to the two US vs Canada match-ups -- Rob Vigeant Jr. vs Denis Dubreuil in the right and Benji Dwyer vs Chris Gobby in the left. Both matches feature seasoned veterans against realtively new pullers (Rob less than a year and a half and Chris less than a year). Denis and Benji have proven themselves to be top pullers and Rob and Chris have come a long way in a short amount of time. This will be great!

At 6'6", Devon usually weighs in at a lean 220-225. He's armwrestled Ron only once at the 1999 Worlds in Tokyo. Devon lost that match. He's definitely stronger now than he was 6 years ago.

If you're interested in pulling the regular tournament John, you'd likely be able to pull the 205 class as well as the supers. It would be a long day of pulling!

A triple elimination tournament is a lot of fun if you like to pull. There's a definite advantage to staying in the winners' bracket though.

Devon Larratt and Tim Bresnan will face each other for the first time in a 3 out of 5 right-hand supermatch on October 1st at the Battle in the Capital II. If you want to see this take place in person, come to Ottawa for one of the biggest events of the season! Remember -- all pro classes pay to 6th and are triple elimination!

Denis has been training hard for about 6 months now and his accomplishments have been impressive. In the past two months he's had wins over Crazy George, Troy Eaton, and Luke Reimer -- all three multiple time Canadian champions in higher weight classes. I can't touch him in a tournament. I know Rob has been getting stronger and stronger, but I would still give this one to Denis. Should be a great match!

I’d like to set up a supermatch for Devon Larratt at The Battle in the Capital on October 1st. He’s up for pulling ANYONE right or left, but here are a few people I think could have excellent matches with him: Matt Girdner, Tim Bresnan, Ron Bath, Dan Victor, and Paul Walthers. Aside from having a match with Ron in Tokyo in 1999 I don’t think he’s ever pulled any of these guys. What does everyone else think? Are there any other pullers that should be considered? If any armwrestler is interested in this, please send me a personal message and we can iron out the details.

You definitely need to pay attention when doing the brackets for a triple elimination tournament. You are correct, there are three brackets: A - for those who are undefeated; B - for those with one loss; and C - for those with two losses. The big trick is ensuring no one receives more than one bye and that two armwrestlers don't face each other more than once for as long as possible.
Triple elimination can make for exciting finals. Last year's right-hand heavyweight final had Sylvain Perron on the A side and Earl Wilson on the B side. Earl proceeded to beat Sylvain three times in a row to take the title of Battle in the Capital Champion!

I’d like to invite everyone to the big event I’m holding on October 1st in Ottawa, Canada – The Battle in the Capital. This event has lots of things going for it: - Pro classes that pay down to 6th
- Amateur classes with beautiful awards for the top 5
- A great trophy for the top team
- TRIPLE eliminaton pro classes
- Gary Roberts will be filming the event for ARM TV!!!
Ever wish you had another chance to pull after losing twice in a tournament? Now you can! A triple elimination format ensures more accurate final standings so we find out exactly who the top pullers are on that day. This event will be a great chance for pullers from the Northeast US to meet and compete against many pullers from Southeastern Canada. I’ve been to tournaments throughout New England over the years and I know there are lots of armwrestlers who could do very well at this event. The classes would definitely be interesting. Ottawa is a great location for an event of this type as it’s really not that far from several states. It’s a 1 hour drive from upstate New York, 3 hours from Vermont, 4 hours from New Hampshire, 5 hours from Pennsylvania, 7 and half hours from Michigan, 8 hours from New York City, etc... Competitors who came from much further last year felt the event was well worth the trip. There will also be awards for the best match of the day as well as for the most sportsmanlike competitor. The first place awards for the amateur division are large sculptured arms, weighing 10 pounds! Anyone who has been to a tournament where Gary Roberts has filmed knows that he can really get the crowd excited. He is a great addition to this year’s event! Full tournament details can be found here: p079.ezboard.com/fcanadianarmwrestlingfederationfrm20.showMessage?topicID=20.topicHope to see everyone on October 1st!

Denis Dubreuil will almost certainly be there. He easily won the pro 165 right and left last year. I'm curious to see if he can do it again!
